Chapter 196
They walked one behind the other, neither too fast nor too slow, Jonathan finally slowed his pace, quietly letting out a sigh of
relief.
When he reached them, Jonathan had already regained his usual calmness, Whitney saw Jonathan and Preston and asked. “Why did the two of you come here?”
Preston let out a sigh of relief but still said, “We couldn’t find Cynthia and thought she was missing. Didn’t expect her to be with you
Cynthia spoke up, I got lost after coming out of the restroom and happened to run into Ms. Bennett. She invited me to watch a play with her, so I agreed.
Preston felt relieved as if a weight had been lifted off his shoulders. Things weren’t at all like Jonathan had suspected. He looked at Jonathan and said, “Jonathan, I told you Cynthia just got lost, but you were worried she might be in danger.”
Jonathan didn’t say anything but checked Cynthia out. His gaze eventually fixed on her neck.
Cynthia’s neck was red with noticeable finger marks, Jonathan’s fingers clenched tightly as his eyes moved to her hands. In Cynthia’s hands was a bag. Jonathan asked in a calm voice, “What are you holding?
Cynthia said, “This is a gift from Ms. Bennett, a token of her warm hospitality, so I accepted it”
Preston noticed it too. He remembered the bag, it was a rare custom–made bag last year ordered by Whitney. The bag itself was worth a few hundred thousand dollars, but the massive ruby specially placed on it was valued at 60 million dollars.
This was Whitney’s favorite purse. Just last year, she jokingly said it would be a gift for her future daughter–in–law. Little did Preston expect, she actually gave it to Cynthia.
Preston was overjoyed. He wondered, ‘Does this mean my mom doesn’t mind my feelings for Cynthia
Preston was overjoyed inside, but he didn’t show it. Whitney said. T’m tired and would like to take a break. Preston, show Ms. Jones around; there are plenty of fun places here. If Ms. Jones needs anything, feel free to let me know.”
Preston gave a playful salute and said, “As you wish, Her Majesty
Whitney was amused, her eyes curving with a smile. Soon, with several bodyguards around her, Whitney got into a black
Cynthia also got into the car with Preston and Jonathan. Throughout the journey, Preston was excited, often glancing at Cynthia’s bag.
“Cynthia, did my mom say anything when she gave you this bag Preston asked with anticipation in his eyes. His ears turned slightly red, and his face showed a shy expression.
Cynthia, however, didn’t notice his mood at all. She just held the bag tightly to her chest, looking very serious.
Jonathan suddenly stopped the car. “Preston, get out. I have something to say to Ms. Jones.”
Preston complained, “What is it that I can’t hear?”
Without further ado, Jonathan commanded, “Get out.”
Preston pouted, clearly dissatisfied. But he obediently opened the car door and stepped out. He had always listened to his uncle since he was a kid, and it seemed like his body just acted on instinct.

However, just as Preston got put and closed the door, Jonathan started the car and sped away.
Realizing what happened. Preston shouted, “Jonathan, how could you leave me behind! Jonathan! You’re 100 much!”

As the car sped up, Preston’s figure quickly vanished from the rearview mirror. Only then did Jonathan speak, “What did my sister say to you?”
Cynthia still appeared somewhat stunned, as if she hadn’t fully come to her senses. She clearly remembered how she had just refused Whitney’s demand to kill Nina. Whitney then instructed her to go on stage.
The heavy curtain on stage slowly opened again. One body lay there, that of the previous actor.
Blood flowed from his body, and his body was completely soaked in it. The whole stage was stained a deep crimson
red.
Cynthia was nearly paralyzed with shock. She couldn’t determine if the performance was that convincing or if it was actually happening.
She was frozen for a few seconds before she snapped out of it. Quickly, she rushed over to check on the person. His body was already cold…
Cynthia backed away in fear, almost falling off the stage..
At that moment, several bodyguards came up and moved the person off the stage.
They were expressionless, as indifferent as if they were just moving props. It seemed like they’d done this countless times before.
Cynthia’s voice trembled. “Why did you kill him?”
Whitney just smiled and said, “He sacrificed for art. Such performances are what truly touch the heart, making them great and eternal, doesn’t he?”
Cynthia’s eyes were filled with fear. Even though she’d been through a lot and considered herself seasoned, experiencing both warmth and coldness of humanity, this moment made her feel like she was truly in hell. The devil was right next to
her.
Half an hour ago, the actor was lively and full of life on stage. But now, he was just a cold corpse.
