Chapter 43 

After the initial surprise, Shirley was instantly ecstatic and delighted. She did not reveal it right away. Instead, she took out her cell phone, quickly made a short video, and sent it to Filip right away. 

Filip was processing Lilian’s release when he received the photos and noticed Shirley had sent them. He did not like Shirley and thought of her as a woman who had grown up in the slums, sensitive, with an inferiority complex, and overly concerned about her identity. Although they had each other’s WhatsApp contact numbers, they had never contacted each other. 

Meanwhile, Shirley had sent a video of Cynthia having dinner with a man, showing them talking and laughing. The man suddenly leaned over and pressed his lips to Cynthia’s, and she did not resist, even smiling. 

Filip immediately felt his heart clench. He couldn’t help but tighten his grip on the phone. He recalled the night he had just returned to the country when Cynthia had said she already had a boyfriend. He thought she was pretending, so he did not consider it to be true. 

Filip felt an inexplicable anger rising as he thought, ‘Cynthia actually found a boyfriend.’ He immediately called Cynthia. 

On the other side, Cynthia and Jonathan had just finished eating and were about to leave when her phone on the table lit up. Jonathan saw the word “Filip” clearly. His face darkened instantly. 

Cynthia picked up her phone, glanced at Jonathan, and answered, “What’s up?” 

Filip tried to keep his composure and asked, “Cynthia, where are you now? Who are you with?” 

Cynthia smiled and replied, “Dinner with my boyfriend. What’s the matter, Mr. Yates?” 

The veins in Filip’s forehead bulged. He had thought Cynthia was deliberately pissing him off, so he had not expected every word she said to be true. “Cynthia, how dare you cheat on me!” he shouted. 

Cynthia smiled and said, “Filip, you should reflect on who we are to each other.” 

“Everyone knows we are husband and wife. Did you ever think about my dignity when you got another man?” Filip asked. For him, the only thing missing was a marriage certificate. In fact, Filip was the one who had backed out of the marriage certificate. If Lilian hadn’t fainted that day, he and Cynthia might have gotten the certificate by now. 

Still, Filip and Cynthia had held a wedding reception before. Although not many people were invited, the guests were people of status in Roncrity. Thus, they were already a legitimate couple in the eyes of outsiders. 

Cynthia scoffed. “Since we’re husband and wife, did you think about my dignity when you eloped with your mistress?” 

Filip was silent, but his heavy breathing showed how furious he was. 

Cynthia continued, “Besides, we were never married. Filip, we have separated. You have no right to interfere in my affairs.” With that, she hung up the phone. 

When Cynthia looked up at Jonathan, the man’s frown had relaxed. “Happy?” Cynthia asked with a smile. 

Jonathan raised his eyebrows and said, “The word ‘boyfriend‘ sounds good to me.” 

Cynthia swiped her long, wavy hair and asked, “Are all men so possessive?” 

Jonathan instantly frowned again as he muttered, “All men? You have other men?” 

Cynthia ignored Jonathan and commented, “Childish.” At the same time, she wondered, ‘Why did Filip suddenly make such a phone call? Is he here, too?‘ At that thought, she stood up and looked around.

Then Cynthia noticed a figure leaving in a hurry. It was Shirley. Cynthia realized Shirley was the one who had sent Filip the message, but Cynthia did not care. After all, she had never thought of hiding it from Filip before, let alone now. 

Meanwhile, Filip threw the phone away with a sullen face after being hung up. Lilian, who happened to see it, came over, took Filip’s arm, and asked, “Filip, what’s wrong?” 

Filip stared at Lilian coldly, which startled her because Filip had never given her such a look. 

‘Filip seemed to have changed since Cynthia threw that recording in the hospital that day. Is he really suspicious of me? No, I’ve spent years planning to get to where I am today. I can’t fail, Lilian thought. With tears in her eyes, Lilian looked aggrieved as she asked, “Is there something I did that upset you?” 

Filip felt conflicted when he saw Lilian’s pitiful appearance. It was the first time he realized how much of an actor Lilian was. He did not confront her with what he had found on her computer or question her. 

Filip did that because he thought Lilian was doing those things for his sake and out of insecurity. Besides, the doctor said she shouldn’t have been provoked anymore due to the complications of her pregnancy. 

“Filip, no matter what I do, it’s all just because I love you too much. Don’t be angry with me, okay? I won’t do anything to upset you in the future,” Lilian promised. 

With that, Filip’s expression finally seemed to soften. He thought of Lilian’s weakness and inability to care for herself, yet she only cared about him. In contrast, Cynthia had the appearance of a rose but the character of a wild horse, constantly disobeying him. 

Then Filip put his hand on Lilian’s shoulder and advised, “Don’t mess with Cynthia again. She’s ruthless. You’re no match for her.” 

Lilian replied, “What about my mother? I heard she went to the TV station the other day and made a scene. I’m so scared “Isn’t she just after money? Don’t worry about it. I’ll take care of it,” Filip assured.
