With Mint now assigned to the operation, the Homeland Security headquarters was filled with people working overtime. Mint had welcomed the captains from each department to brief them on the plan.
"Right now, there are five possible countries they could be headed to, with a few more under consideration," she explained, standing in front of the capable individuals who would lead their respective teams under her plan.
"Assuming they land in any of these..."
She trailed off as the door suddenly flew open. Everyone instinctively turned toward the entrance, eyes landing on a bloodied Hugo, who hadn’t even changed clothes—dry blood still stained his shirt.
Hugo panted, brushing off the eyes on him and jerking his chin toward Mint. She nodded back and continued speaking while Hugo dragged himself into a corner to listen.
"We’ve already sent people to each of these locations to keep track of them," she added calmly. "So, we’ll be dividing ourselves and flying out accordingly. Once their destination is confirmed, those in the other areas will fly in as reinforcement..."
Mint carried on with her explanation, keeping it as concise as possible. After all, anything could happen.
Zoren and Atlas had already departed in pursuit of the code, racing the same people who had abducted Penny. It was already assumed that the enemy was after the code. If Nathalie or Jonathan got their hands on it, then it would be hell.
"..." Mint paused mid-briefing, her brows knitting together.
With her sudden silence, everyone’s brows rose. "What is it now, Chief?"
Mint gulped, her expression hardening as she looked around the room.
"Forget what I just said," she muttered, walking over to the map behind her. She picked up a marker and circled a location before turning back to them. "We’re heading here."
"All of us?" someone asked, confused. "I mean, I don’t mind, but wouldn’t it be better to divide our forces? That way, someone’s already in place in case we’re wrong."
"He’s right. Acting as backup isn’t a bad idea. It won’t take long for one team to reach another."
Mint shook her head, her eyes sharp with certainty. "This is where it’s all going to happen. I’m sure of it."
"Prepare for departure," she said. "We move in one hour."
With that, she dismissed the group. They only shrugged. It was Mint’s call, after all. They just needed to follow orders and head out. They had people to brief and risks to reduce. The enemies they were going up against were dangerous.
As the room emptied one by one, Mint approached Hugo and stopped in front of him. She studied him from head to toe, not sure if all that blood was his.
"I’m fine," he said, locking eyes with her. "Are you sure that’s where they took my sister?"
Mint didn’t answer immediately. She simply stared. "Yes."
"Your basis?"
"Jonathan or Nathalie need the code. If they’ve already gotten their hands on it, I doubt they’d waste time going somewhere else just to travel again," she replied. "Zoren and Atlas went straight to where they are."
"I see." Hugo nodded, pushing off from the wall.
"Where are you going?" she asked when he didn’t answer. "Hugo Bennet, you’re coming with me."
Hugo paused, looking back and running his tongue along his inner cheek. "I’ll go to the one that gets there first. My men are waiting for me there."
"I’m leaving now," she said with a shrug. "My future wife’s life is on the line. I only stayed to brief those guys—then I’m out."
She started walking past him and gave him a firm pat on the back. "Let’s go. Chop chop!"
And just like that, countless people and numerous groups began mobilizing for the rescue and raid operation—to arrest those behind one of the cruelest crime syndicates in recent history. That night, the rotors of many helicopters could be heard rising across several locations... all headed toward one place.
