Chapter 19
Susanna had spent most of her recent days filming on set in Jonestown. Emma went to visit her scriptwriting teacher, Eleanor Dawson while visiting Susanna on one of her filming days. Being a scriptwriter wasn’t as easy as it sounded—one couldn’t just come up with the script for an entire movie after learning about scriptwriting. Ever since Susanna got Emma into this industry, Emma had been learning under Eleanor. Just drafting the overall storyline of the script took Emma two years to master, and she later proceeded to split the script into its individual scenes before learning how to develop scripts on her own. Emma had started working on all of this since she got married to Trevor. Fortunately, this job didn’t require her to go to work, so she still managed to fulfill her duties as Trevor’s wife while maintaining a tiny hobby of her own. After receiving the most recent job from Wesley, Emma felt like she couldn’t handle things on her own, so she figured that she would get Wesley to hire Eleanor as the lead scriptwriter, while Emma worked under Eleanor to deal with the easier tasks. However, both Wesley and Eleanor agreed that Emma was ready to be the sole scriptwriter of a project after four years of training. Their acknowledgment and support gave Emma a lot of confidence. While they had this conversation, Eleanor had suggested that Emma could go to her for help if she ever needed it. So, Emma decided to pay Eleanor a visit while also visiting Susanna at work. Before her trip there, Emma prepared some home-cooked food for Susanna. After her three years as someone’s wife, Emma’s cooking skills were sufficient to land her a job as a chef. When Emma arrived at the set, Eleanor was having a meeting with the director, so Emma went to meet Susanna first. They had just chatted for a short while when they heard a commotion happening nearby. Susanna gazed in the direction of the noise with a rather disdainful look in her eyes. “I bet that idiot, Arianna, is here again.” “Arianna Bateson? What would she be doing here?” Emma couldn’t conceal the hatred in her eyes upon the mention of Arianna. Arianna was Trevor’s sister and Crystal’s good friend—she was also the one person who had caused Emma the most trouble throughout the three years Emma had been married to Trevor. Arianna wasn’t just rude and scornful toward Emma; she would even insult and put Emma down in front of Trevor’s parents and the rest of their extended family. That was why everyone except Christopher had a horrible impression of Emma. Arianna didn’t have a direction in life after graduating from university, but she managed to get into the film department that Trevor had founded because of her good looks. It was an undeniable fact that everyone in the Bateson Family was blessed with good-looking genes. Arianna was a beauty, but she didn’t have any brains or acting skills. As such, she barely made it anywhere with her career. All she could do was use her countless boyfriends to attract the public’s attention. Many of these men were willing to date Arianna since she had a really influential brother. As long as Trevor was looking out for her, Arianna wouldn’t need to worry, even if she couldn’t build her fame in the film industry. Presently, Susanna spoke in a hostile tone. “Her new boyfriend is one of the supporting characters in our cast. He’s famous for going after rich women.” Emma was speechless. There wasn’t a single person she hated more than Arianna. Truth was she wouldn’t have come if she had known that Arianna was going to be around. “By the way, I’d like to remind you that Arianna would most probably secure a role in the new drama that you’re working on since Trevor is the sponsor for that drama,” Susanna muttered. In other words, Susanna was reminding Emma to be more alert while working on the drama, as Susanna was worried that Arianna might bully Emma. Upon hearing that, Emma simply let out a scoff. Arianna can get all arrogant and cocky around me if she wants to, but I’m not going to tolerate her anymore! I’m no longer the old Emma. I’m no longer the woman who would allow her lover’s sister and mother to shame her for the sake of pleasing her lover. Emma was just thinking about her past when she heard a sharp voice piercing through her eardrums. “Emma? When did you come back? What are you doing here? Do you think random people are allowed into the filming set?” Emma didn’t need to turn around to know that it was Arianna who was talking. She had listened to the same, high-pitched voice for the past three years, so she would be able to recognize it anywhere.
