Chapter 5
It was about time for dinner and Emma told Christopher that she would personally cook a few dishes for him. She figured that it would be her last time having a proper meal with the old man. There was a gloomy look in Trevor’s eyes as well when he arrived at the kitchen. There were even a few pieces of tea leaves stuck onto his coat as if Christopher had splashed tea all over him. Once Trevor entered the kitchen, he dragged Emma out without a word. “What do you want?” She tried to resist him as she was startled, but he tightened his grip on her wrist as she growled, “You sure are an impressive woman, Emma. I can’t believe you informed Grandpa about our divorce! Don’t you know that his health is deteriorating?”
Emma tried to pull her hand away. “I just thought that it is necessary for him to be aware of this since we’re getting a divorce. If you think that I’m trying to create a whole fuss, then I guess nothing I say can change your mind.” The maid had stepped out of the room the moment Trevor entered, so it was just him and Emma in the huge kitchen. At this point, his blood was boiling as he saw the stubborn and foreign expression on her face. He tried to drag Emma out of the kitchen, but she kept resisting him. “What are you trying to do?” He shot her an angry glare before he tugged his lips into an evil smirk. “Do you like it here? Fine. I’ll fulfill your wishes.” He took off his belt as he spoke. Emma’s face paled as she stared at him in disbelief. “Are you crazy, Trevor?” In the past, whenever they bickered with one another, he would always maintain normal on the surface but ‘torture’ her when they were in bed. The expression on his face right then looked exactly like the one he wore when he was dominating her in bed. Trevor slammed her body against the door as Emma used all of her might to resist him. “Let go of me!” He pressed his body closer to hers as he spoke with a tone that made him sound like the devil. “Scream all you want, but only if you want the entire villa to know what we’re up to. Either way, I don’t think anyone will have the guts to stop us. We’re still husband and wife, after all.”
As Emma was caught in a helpless and horrible situation, tears trickled down her cheeks. She was dressed in a skirt, which made everything easier for him. She did not know how the whole shameful process started or ended; all she knew was that it felt like she had died and come back to life. They were in the kitchen of the Bateson Residence and yet, he had treated her with zero respect, crushing every last bit of her pride and making it hard for her to meet gazes with anyone else under the same roof. “I hate you, Trevor Bateson!” She tidied her messy clothes before shouting at him. Her eyes were bloodshot as she turned and charged out of the kitchen. Trevor clenched his jaw as he stood by the kitchen and watched her figure disappearing into the distance. Since when does she get a say in how things are between us? What she needed was a good beating and she has gotten it now. Thankfully, he did not chase after her in the end. Soon after, Emma hurried off to Susanna’s place while looking like a mess when she arrived. Her mind was completely blank; all she knew was that she could not go on like this any longer. I have to divorce Trevor, or he’ll just violate me whenever he likes to. He may be turning a blind eye to our divorce, but I have my ways.
That Saturday night was Bateson Group’s anniversary. The event set-up was luxurious and glimmering, and many of the richest entrepreneurs were present at the party, including Crystal, who was seated right beside Trevor during the event. Almost everyone in the industry knew that Bateson Group had a filming team that Trevor had started a few years ago. The rumors claimed that he did it to support Crystal’s career; indeed, she had successfully turned into one of the most popular celebrities in the past three years. Since Trevor and Emma’s marriage was a secret while most of the public thought that he was single, they would often create gossip and rumors about his relationship with Crystal. Anything could happen between a famous female celebrity and a mysterious, cold businessman. The people there found their imagination running all over the place. The event was halfway through when Trevor, Crystal and a few other higher-ups of the company were invited on stage for the opening ceremony for a filming project. As the ceremony was about to end, Trevor turned to leave the stage. At that moment, a gentle and feminine voice sounded in his ears. “Hold on, President Bateson.”
