As Jean watched Brad's figure leave the ward, she seethed with anger. She threw anything she could find that was within reach while cursing under her breath.

"Bitch! I'm going to make sure you pay for this!"

Once she was certain Brad had left and wouldn't be coming back, she called Gigi. "Gigi, it's the weekend. Why aren't you coming to visit me in the hospital?

"Oh, don't listen to Brad. I'm fine. If you come over to visit, I'll definitely be able to hang out with you. I'll sneak out the back door so no one will notice."

On the other end of the phone, Gigi agreed eagerly. An hour later, she arrived at Jean's ward with the latest LV handbag.

Upon seeing Jean, she was as excited as a child. She rushed over to hug her. "Jean, you don't know how much I missed you, but Brad said you weren't feeling well and wouldn't let me come over. If it weren't for him, I'd have been here much sooner.

"Oh, and how's your body? Are you really allowed to go out? Will Brad kill me if he finds out I took you out? Will he cut off my allowance? You don't know how fierce Brad can be. He's been so harsh with me lately. I'm so scared."

Jean gave Gigi a hug and playfully pinched her cheek. "Oh, you're such a worrywart. Which question should I answer first?"

Gigi gave a sheepish smile. "Sorry, Jean. I should have asked them one by one. Anyway, you can answer them all at once."

With Gigi's help, Jean got down from the bed and affectionately tapped her nose. "You clever little thing.

"How should I put this? My condition isn't too bad. I should be fine as long as I keep up with the dialysis. Once we find a suitable kidney donor, I can have the transplant. Brad says there's a good chance we'll find one soon.
