***Bryson's POV***
My brain stuttered for a moment, trying so hard to make a connection of the words Ava had just uttered. I looked on at my right as Ray's legs gave put, forcing him to sit on the carpeted floor with both his hands atop of his head.
I thought for a minute that Ava was only joking or maybe getting back at us. Judging by her seriousness and sincerity, she knew what she just said.
The information left me blank and void, hell I didn't know what to do or what to think. I didn't understand why or why this wasn't making any sense at all.
Why would my parents keep this from us all these years. How had Ava even discovered such confidential information? Did mum and dad show her the certificates or did she just stumble on them while she was cleaning?
Why though?
Ray was very quiet, his demeanor completely altered, his creasing brows portrayed an immense amount of worry.
Ava hadn't moved a muscle, she hadn't removed her hand over her mouth. Her eyes were getting glossy again.
She was completely frozen, her eyes eyes were not blinking, it was like she was floating slightly outside her body.
Was it because of me being raped or was it her finding about the relationship between Ray and me. Or was it both?
I didn't know which was which and seeing her react like this was really affecting me all together. Not to add the shocking news she had just delivered.
I could see her skin turning pale and grey. I didn't expect it to affect her this much, hell if I knew I wouldn't have blurted it out like that.
'Ava, I know this is not what you expected. But I promised Bry would talk to you and he wants to do that now. Will you please let him tell you everything?'
Ray was now sitting besides her, rubbing circles on her back. I'm guessing he was helping her rid the tension that she had exposed her muscles to.
He completely ignored or chose to ignore whatever he was feeling, just to comfort her. The three of us were surprised and yet Ava, was more saddened.
She nodded, an answer to Ray's question about letting me talk to her. I was still standing, but if I had to do this, then I had to do it while seated.
It still affected me, I hadn't talked about it in years but I was ready to at least let Ava know the whole truth.
Sitting on the opposite couch, I faced Ray and Ava. Honestly It wasn't easy, I always felt ashamed talking about it.
None of my friends knew about it and I didn't trust any of them to tell them. But here I was, willing to tell Ava every single thing.
It frightened me to no end but like Ray said earlier, she was my only shot to my happiness, and I wasn't about to let her go.
So I took a long deep breath with my eyes closed. When I breathed out, I was ready to talk. So I started talking.
'Growing up with mum with always there for us was the best thing we could ever ask for. She was a stay at home mum and to us that was really good.
I mean we got to spend time with her each and every day. She would drop us to school and pick us up after school.
We were pretty happy until my mum told us she would start baby sitting for her best friend.
I was 8 at that time and Ray was 10. She had told us that her best friend had problems raising her 4 year old daughter and that she had to help.
We were not happy that mum would be spending time with another baby, a baby that we never got to meet by the way.
As the years went by, mum became more and more busy with the child. She would still take us to school, but she had stopped picking us from school.
My mum had surprisingly called that day, wishing me a happy birthday and promising to send a birthday gift.
Ray on the other hand had wanted us to go skating and go for ice cream after words but Monica had said dad had told her not to let us go anywhere.
She had also said that we were to stay in our rooms after dinner and not come out until the next day.
I hated her for restraining me on my birthday. I wanted to at least enjoy it even though my parents weren't around.
I wanted to have fun with my brother and her telling us to stay in our rooms had completely ruined my moods.
Looking back, I don't know why we followed her instructions. We should have told her to fuck off but we didn't, like two obedient children we followed her orders.
Ray had told me that he would sneak us out after dinner. He wanted me to be happy, nothing ice cream wouldn't have fixed.
He had told me he would come for me but what we didn't know was that, the vile nanny had slipped off sleeping pills in the apple juice she had given him during dinner.
What we also didn't know was that, she had also slipped Viagra in my orange juice too. ' Ava gasped out of terror, her heart already breaking for me.
Ray understood that we needed a break, especially since Ava could barely contain her sobs. So with a nod of my head, I gave him a go ahead to distract her for a while.
'Show us. ' Ray stated, talking to Ava.
'Huh? ' She seemed taken aback by the sudden diversion.
'Show us the adoption certificates. '
