Chapter 591
She froze, before asking, "did you see the kids?"
Tommy simply raised his glass.
Desperately to know what had happened, she grabbed her glass and took a sip.
"How unsettling it is for you to drink the wine that's offered to you at a strange man's place..."
She scowled. "Are you going to talk or not?"
"I saw them. They were eating with Anthony. A heart-warming scene, truly." Tommy sipped on his wine, before setting the glass down. "Don't worry. They are his kids. He's going to treat them well. If I'm being honest, they are better off than relying on you, who can barely make ends meet."
"I know..." Anne did not need him to remind her of that.
"Did you talk at noon?"
"How do you know?"
"Anyone could find out," he said calmly, "judging from the look on your face, it didn't go well?"
Anne stabbed at the meat on her plate with her fork, thinking back to what a disaster lunch had been.
"Can you talk about it?"
"I wanted to fight for the custody of at least Chloe, and... leave the boys with Anthony. He didn't agree." She supported her head with her arm. "He's always been that merciless..."
Even making the choice of giving up her sons was extremely hard, but still, she needed to make the decision, or she would lose all of them.
"Take a step back, then. Don't fight for custody at all. Pay for alimony and drop by to see the kids twice a week," he said.
"What...?" Anne refused to accept that.
"Be realistic. You can't win against Anthony."
"Anthony won't want my money!" Anthony was far too wealthy to be interested in any amount she could afford to pay.
"This is like a business deal. You need to present how eager you are and proceed by letting the other person know that they are getting something out of it. You went head first and asked for a daughter. Did you really think that he would be happy about that?"
Anne scowled and wondered if that was the reason why Anthony had been so cruel at noon. She did not know why he acted that way, as she thought that all men cared only for their sons. Anthony's empire needed an heir, so she had thought that he needed the boys for it and would have no need for her daughter.
On top of that, her daughter looked exactly like her and Anne was worried that Anthony might mistreat Chloe simply because of her resemblance to her mother.
"If you think of this as a business deal, you can always revisit and renegotiate until you succeed," Tommy said.
She looked at him with determination. "I won't give up."
She had to at least get her daughter back.
