While they were talking, Scarlett and the two children came back.
“Mommy!”
The moment Stella saw Hayden, she ran over and cheered. Noah, however, showed an exhausted look. He dragged himself over and sat on the sofa. He embraced Hayden’s arm as if he was going to fall asleep on the spot.
“I’ve said that this child’s constitution is too poor. He becomes like this after running for just a while. He is indeed spoiled.” Scarlett showed an expression that she hated it when somebody failed to meet her expectations.
Hayden was a little helpless. She stroked Noah’s head and explained, “It isn’t his fault. Noah has been weak and sickly since young. He is unable to speak anymore due to high fever as a child and his constitution has been poor.”
“The high fever is so intense that he can’t speak due to that?” Scarlett put aside the cup of water that she was drinking and thoughtfully stared at Noah, “He hasn’t said anything after that?”
Hayden frowned, “It isn’t that he hasn’t said anything after that. I hear Joseph say that he has spoken twice this year.”
“I think it isn’t that simple.” Scarlett looked at Hayden with an expression that had hidden meaning, “The Beckham family is such a big family but it only has Joseph as a son to carry on their family name. If there is no descendant, many people will be benefitted. So, this little kid may not be able to grow up safely.”
Hearing this, Hayden froze. She looked at Scarlett in shock.
Once, she heard her Grandpa say that Scarlett had a child in the early years but due to an unknown reason, the child was gone. Since then, the families of her eldest uncle and her second uncle which originally had a close relationship did not contact each other anymore. It was only until that her second uncle divorced and had remarriage afterward only then the two families started to contact each other again.
She did not understand this when she was young as she was still immature at that time. But now, when she looked back on these matters, a chill went down her spine.
In front of a large amount of money, most people would lose their minds.
Scarlett was indeed reminding her that Noah’s fever in his childhood was probably not an accident. Also, such an ‘accident’ would continue to occur frequently in the future. Hayden could quickly link to the matter in which when she saw Noah the first time, the chandelier collapsed and fell.
“Take precautions early. Don’t trust anyone.” Scarlett’s voice let Hayden regain her presence of mind.
She looked at Scarlett. In a sports coat, she was standing in front of the kitchen bar while making coffee to drink. She still had a straight body in her fifties and her aura was superb. Her words always hit the nail on the head and Hayden also felt what she said was entirely true.
After chatting for a while, Hayden left with the two kids.
“I’ll bring Noah and Stella to leave first. I’ll bring them to visit you again when we are free.”
“Wait a minute.” Scarlett walked over and handed over the keys, “It’s your thing, take it yourself.”
“I can’t take this.”
“Didn’t you behave very confidently when you came to ask for your mother’s legacy last time? This is only a minor part of your mother’s legacy left with me. I’m just letting you have a place to stay after coming back from overseas. Don’t be like Brook who always puts on airs. You don’t learn anything else but you learn from him to be like a wolf in sheep’s clothing? What, he doesn’t give you any single money of the Downey family so you’re going to inherit the sheep’s clothing from him?”
Hayden was being vigorously reproved. Scarlett scolded her and every member of the Downey family regardless of young or old one. She scolded them without using any vulgar words. Her way of reprimanding could let those who listened to her feel their blood chill in their veins. Hearing this, Hayden’s hair stood on end and she could only bite the bullet to take the keys.
After leaving the Downey family, Noah lay in Hayden’s arms and slept. Whereas, Stella was full of spirit and she asked curiously, “Mommy, why does Grandaunt hate Grandpa so much?”
“Didn’t Grandaunt tell you?”
“She did. Grandaunt said that she had a huge hatred for Grandpa and she also reprimanded Grandpa severely. I didn’t understand it but she was pretty fierce anyway.” Stella blinked, “But, Mommy, you’ve said that we shouldn’t only listen to a person’s words. So, I still want to hear it from Mommy.”
Hayden smiled helplessly and patted on Stella’s forehead, “You’re very young but you’re very smart and mischievous. What I’ve said is that we shouldn’t judge things by one side of the story. Kids better don’t ask too much about the adult matters, and don’t carry too much.”
