Hayden Downey gulped as she looked at the man who was feeding her porridge, and she said awkwardly, “You really seemed to be the CEO back then.”
“It was me.”
Joseph Beckham shoved the last gulp of the fish congee into her mouth. The spoon hit the wall of the porcelain bowl, making a crisp sound. He rested on the bed, wiping his hands slowly.
“But I wasn’t the one in charge of the clothing brand.”
Joseph looked at Dante icily, “Hadn’t you eavesdrop on my phone call this afternoon? Still being suspicious? Or is it that you don’t even want to admit it at all?”
Dante shivered with rage, “That’s all because of the conflict of interest between the senior management, using us as an excuse. I’m sick of it.”
“I have nothing to say if you wish to think so.”
Joseph glanced at him, balled up the tissue in his hand, and threw it right into the dustbin at the end of the bed.
If it weren’t for Hayden, he wouldn’t even bother to bring up these petty matters that were a mess caused by Franklin Hawkins.
“I think it’s just a misunderstanding.”
Hayden looked at the two, “The ST Group accused the staff of its subordinate companies indiscriminately back then, which is unfair as it can ruin someone’s life easily.”
Dante couldn’t agree more on this.
“Although the way the ST Group did this was wrong, Mr. Burke, you shouldn’t blame on others too without knowing the truth. Then what’s the different of this and the way the ST Group have done?”
Hearing this, Dante’s face turned pale.
In fact, from Dante’s statement, Hayden could tell that Dante probably already knew that he had wronged Joseph and regretted it. Just that he couldn’t step down.
“For my sake, why not you two shake hands and make peace. Mr. Burke, I have eaten your fish congee and it tastes great. But I won’t be paying you, considering it as your apology for accidentally scalding me.”
Hayden intended to liven up the atmosphere, but Dante just couldn’t laugh.
Joseph was just beside them with a blank expression. Nobody responded to her joke, and the situation became even more awkward.
“He has to apologize to me.”
Joseph pointed to the bruise at the corner of his mouth, “Letting him apologize to me is just minor.”
“You…” Dante was furious and pointed to his own black eyes, “I was beaten like this by you.”
“Self-defence is different from intentional injury.”
Hayden coughed violently, seeing the two were about to pick a fight, “Ahem...”
Both of them then subsided, looking at her tensely.
“I came all the way here to sign a contract with the designer and end up scalding my leg. You two are still bickering here. How irritating!”
Speaking of this, Joseph had a guilty conscience.
Hayden would be unlikely to get hurt if it wasn’t because of him. He gave Dante a cold-eyed stare as he had nothing to vent out his anger.
Dante glared back at him nonchalantly, then looked at Hayden and asked, “Ms. Downey, you told me earlier that you are not from the ST Group, is it? I just want to make sure about it.”
“Of course.” Hayden nodded, “I’m just a former employee of the ST Hotel, and I have nothing to do with them. The Green Lemon Clothing was originally our family’s industry and now I’m in charge of it.”
Joseph was about to rebuke Dante, but after hearing Hayden’s words, he swallowed his words.
“Alright then.”
Dante nodded solemnly, “I’ll sign the contract with you on any terms. Just consider it as my apology to you.”
“Huh?”
Hayden was confused for a moment, “Are you serious? You can say it again.”
