The rain was pattering outside the window. In front of the French windows at the duplex apartment, Hayden Downey brewed a cup of floral tea for Edison Godfery, "My family was chaotic, so I let someone to take care of Stella in the past two days. I'll pick her up and invite you to dinner when you're free."
"I'm free anytime."
The man on the smoke grey fabric sofa looked gentle with his glasses on. He had the characteristics of his age, being calm and confident, and even his behaviours gave others a sense of security, "It doesn't matter for the dinner. The important thing is that the death of your father, do you think it is so over?"
"The death can't be brought back, Edison. You knew that I don't like dwelling on things that were forgone conclusion." Hayden was exhausted, rubbing her temples.
She hadn't been able to get a good night's sleep for the past two days.
Hayden's father's death was suspicious, but she could not do much due to her status now. Otherwise, she would be inevitably accused of being discontented with the distribution of her father's inheritance unfairly and so picking a quarrel. It didn't matter to her at all, but she didn't want others to talk about Stella Downey behind her back.
"You deserve to have half of the Downey family's assets."
"This really doesn't matter at all."
Edison sighed, looking helpless, "You just don't want to put yourself in trouble. You won't move unless you're forced to a certain extent."
"There's nothing wrong with that. I just hope that my life was simpler."
"Is it simple now?"
Edison said in a deeper voice, "The Beckham is a large family, and it won't be simple with their family feuds."
Hearing this, Hayden was stunned for a moment, "You knew all about it?"
"It's hard not to know it."
Edison said faintly, "He always hogs the news headlines of Asia Finance and other titbits. Your relationship with him seems to be no longer a secret."
Hayden leaned on the sofa, smiling, "Are you sure? Alayna told you part of the reason before, right?"
Edison did not deny it.
Alayna Cole was always delighted to relay messages to Edison. Hayden and Edison had already gotten married just before she met Alayna in the United States. Back then, Edison had just overcome the bottleneck in the development of his career and was in a state of steady rise. Edison also provided financial aid to Alayna, who was engaging in advanced studies of design and facing financial distress.
Thus, a gift blinded the eyes of the wise.
Speaking of Alayna, Edison frowned, "Alayna is not in good condition, and I suggest that she should be admitted to the hospital for treatment. The one who called Kevin, may not have the energy to take good care of her."
"Don't worry. The two are really tight."
Hayden waved her hand, showing that Edison had worried too much about it.
Edison then let out a long sigh and said, "It's one thing to have good feelings, and another to be able to take care of a depressed patient. Besides professional caregivers, no one can be able to guard a patient around the clock as there are always time that he has to go out. Once he went out and something happened, who can be responsible for it? The nanny?"
Hayden was unsure again after hearing what Edison said, "I'll talk to Kevin about it next time."
"Well, for the hospital, I have contacted the best depression treatment and rehabilitation centre in the United States. I suggest letting Alayna go over there for her own sake."
"America?"
Hayden froze for a moment, "Kevin might not accept it."
After all, they would be far apart and having a time difference. Kevin would be freak out if he really let Alayna go.
"Then let's see if he is doing this for himself or if he is genuinely for Alayna's good."
