Chapter 65
Charles stopped.
“What’s the matter?” He bent down, arm braced on the bed, and stared intently at her. Her
appearance frightened him.
Naomi felt apologetic for worrying him. “Could you please help me clean up the glass and water on the floor?”
Charles paused, his hand tightened. “But you need to see a doctor now.”
He did not know where she was injured, and it was not as simple as her hand.
Naomi smiled faintly. “Clean up first, then we’ll see the doctor. I don’t want Mom to worry.”
At this moment, Charles remembered that Donna was not in the ward.
He looked at the woman in front of him, her eyes slightly red from pain, seemingly stained with a layer of tears. It tore at his heart. He finally sighed and said, “Okay.”
He swept up the glass, mopped the floor, and restored everything to its original state. When all was done, he went out to call the doctor.
The doctor examined Naomi and asked where she was injured. Naomi did not hide anything and pointed where it hurt.
Charles stood by the side and intently watched on. He watched as her top was lifted, revealing a large bruise above her tailbone. His brow furrowed, his expression serious.
The doctor asked how she got injured, and Naomi simply said she fell accidentally.
She did not mention Olivia or Sasha, and she certainly did not say someone pushed her.
She already understood the intentions behind Sasha and Olivia’s visit. They achieved what they wanted, so the matter should end here. She did not want to pursue it any further.
She believed that there were times when backing away was the best choice:
“We need an X–ray to have a closer look,” the doctor said to Charles after the examination.
Charles nodded. “Alright, I’ll take her. Please let me know what precautions to take ”
“Use a wheelchair. There shouldn’t be any fractures, but it’s best for her not to move too much in this
condition.”
“Alright, I’ll go get the wheelchair.” The doctor informed Charles, indicating where to find it. Shortly after, Charles wheeled it over.
With the doctor gone, Charles settled Naomi into the wheelchair. Naomi, however, glanced at the sky outside, her brows slightly furrowed. “Mom should be back by now.”
It had been quite some time, and Donna should have returned. However, there was still no sign of her. Something seemed to be delaying her.
Understanding her concern, Charles reassured her, “Don’t worry. I called Mrs. Goodwin and told her you wanted to eat locally grown cherries of the season. She should be out buying them.”
Grateful, Naomi looked at him and said, “Thank you, Charles.”
He knew what was on her mind, what she was worried about, and quietly took care of those matters without a word. She had nothing else to offer but her thanks.
This time, Charles tightened his lips and said nothing. He wanted to know what happened, why she ended up alone on the ground with no one attending to her, and why she suffered such harm.
