Diana heaved a sigh and said, "Fine. I won't say anything more since the bet has already been made. This weekend, come with me to the Savage residence and tell Mrs. Savage that you won't keep clinging to Gavin.
"If you do that, maybe she can help you plead your case with the school board at First Academy so that you won't be expelled."
She and Harold had made this decision together, and Harold agreed to it.
"Alright, it's getting late. Both you and Yvonne should go back to your rooms and get some sleep."
Diana glanced at the clock on the living room wall. It was already close to 10:00 pm. This was the time she usually went to bed for her beauty sleep.
"I won't go to the Savage residence with you," Yolanda said firmly, making her stance clear.
It was impossible to make her break off her engagement with Gavin.
Yolanda added, "And I certainly don't need to strike a deal with Mrs. Savage just to stay at First Academy."'
"What did you say?" Diana scoffed angrily in disbelief. "Do you think you can come in first place in the monthly exam? Even if you manage to do that, do you think you can also win the Southdale Physics Competition?"
"Yolanda, that physics competition is very tough. I heard that even the top student from the previous year only ranked 30th. I know you're under a lot of pressure at school. If Mrs. Savage can speak up for you, why not ask her for help?" Yvonne reminded, pretending to be kind and innocent.
"See how sensible Yvonne is?" Diana sighed deeply and went on, "Forget it. If you had any sense, you wouldn't have agreed to such an absurd bet in the first place. It's settled then—this weekend, you're coming with me to the Savage residence."
