Chapter 100 Does Hearst Have a Chance?
When Anaya woke up, she smelt a strong smell of disinfectant and saw the white ceiling of the hospital.
Anaya had an IV on her right hand. The liquid in the medicine bottle slowly dripped down, just in time for the sound of the clock turning in the room.
Anaya propped herself up and found that there was a man sitting on the sofa opposite the bed.
The warm afternoon sun came in through the window, outlining the man’s deep and handsome facial features. His face was stunning and arresting.
Noticing that Anaya had woken up, the person on the sofa closed the computer and walked to the bedside.
“Do you feel better now?”
Anaya nodded. Her lips were still a little pale, and she looked more attractive because of being weak.
“Did you send me to the hospital?”
“Yes.” Hearst bent down and pulled up the quilt for her. “Do you want to eat something?”
Anaya had not eaten lunch at noon. After she woke up, her stomach felt uncomfortable. “I want some porridge.”
Hearst arranged for someone to buy it and then looked at Anaya. “The doctor said that you fainted because of anemia. Have you eaten on time recently?”
“I just missed one lunch. That’s not the reason for my anemia.”
“Then what is it?”
“Joshua had a car accident. I went to give him a blood transfusion,” Anaya said, not hiding the truth.
Hearst frowned and subconsciously reprimanded, “Again, you…”
Before he finished speaking, Hearst suddenly stopped.
“What?” Anaya looked up at him.
Hearst paused for a moment and then said, “Nothing.”
Not long after, Samuel returned with pumpkin porridge, placed the porridge on the bedside table, and quickly turned to leave.
“Mr. Helms…” Anaya couldn’t move her right hand with an IV on it.
She wanted to ask Hearst to bring the porridge over and put it on her quilt. But before Anaya finished her words, Hearst said, “Eat it yourself.”
Hearst’s tone was extremely flat. But Anaya vaguely sensed some anger from it.
She wondered, why is he angry?
Does he think that I want him to feed me?
“Mr. Helms, I just want you to put the porridge on my quilt. I will eat it myself.”
Hearst silently placed the porridge bowl in front of Anaya.
After putting it down, he sat back on the sofa.
Anaya took the spoon with her left hand.
The man on the sofa reminded her, “Be careful of the heat.”
Anaya raised her eyes and looked over.
Hearst had started working again. There was no expression on
his face, so Anaya could not tell how his mood was.
Anaya pondered, is he angry or not?
Probably not.
After all, Mr. Helms is a tolerant and generous person.
Moreover, I don’t seem to have done anything to make him angry.
Anaya slowly finished the porridge. At the same time, the drip happened to be done.
Anaya found her phone and hesitated for a while before calling Lexie.
She fainted because of the blood transfusion. If Joshua died, Anaya would feel like her blood had been wasted.
When the call connected, Anaya asked, “Has Joshua been rescued?”
Hearing her words, Hearst stopped typing on the keyboard for a moment and looked up.
“Yes.” Lexie walked away from Cecilia and went to a corner. She deliberately said unfriendly, “You care about him so much. Why? Do you still love him?”
“No.” Anaya’s voice turned cold. “I just don’t want my blood to be wasted. If it were anyone else, I would also call to ask.”
“So, you won’t ask Joshua to repay you, will you?”
“I want nothing from him. I didn’t help him because of any rewards. After today, I won’t even bother to mention this.”
“You’d better be telling the truth,” Lexie said, feeling a little relieved after getting Anaya’s answer.
She knew that Anaya was a proud person and would not spread out this thing. But still, Lexie was a little worried.
After all, as long as Anaya leaked it, there was no hope for
Lexie to marry into the Maltz family.
She thought, I always hope that Mr. Helms won’t be so good to me.
I should be happy that he is indifferent to me.
