Chapter 77 He Does Not Simply Like You
Aracely also recognized Cecilia‘s voice. Aracely dragged her chair to Anaya‘s side and whispered.
“Mrs. Maltz doesn‘t like Lexie?
“I thought that old woman was only mean to you. It seems I was wrong. She doesn‘t like any girl
her son is with.”
Anaya poured a cup of coffee for Aracely. “Drink some coffee. Don‘t gossip.”
The room next door was quiet for a while before Lexie‘s voice sounded. “Mrs. Maltz, I approached Joshua not for money.”
“Not for money? Cecilia chuckled and slowly put down her cup, saying condescendingly, “Lexie,
cut the act. I‘ve seen a lot of women like you.
“You said that because you don‘t think I can give you much money. You think that no matter how much I give you, you will get a lot more when you marry Joshua, right?”
Cecilia had recently set Joshua up with a rich young lady and had arranged a time to meet with her parents. Cecilia wanted Joshua and the young lady to meet and get to know each other.
When Cecilia found out that Joshua and Lexie had rekindled their relationship yesterday. Cecilia immediately talked to Joshua about it and asked him to break up with Lexie.
Lexie had had an affair with Joshua before he had divorced, so everyone had thought she had
been the other woman.
If Joshua married Lexie, it would be confirmed that Joshua had an extramarital affair with her which would bring disgrace to the Maltz family.
However, Joshua didn‘t listen to Cecilia and insisted on being with Lexie.
Cecilia had failed to change Joshua‘s mind, so she had asked Lexie to meet and tried to force her to leave Joshua
“You have really misunderstood me.” Lexie felt a little wronged, and her voice carried a sobbing
tone as if she had been bullied, “I was already together with Joshua when we were in university. If
it weren‘t for the sake of the family interests, Joshua wouldn‘t have let me go
“Now that the Maltz family is on the right track and Joshua and I are in love with each other, why
can‘t you let hinn be happy?
“You said you and Joshua were in love? How did you come to this conclusion?” Cecilia asked in a
mocking tone.
Joshua told me he would marry me. How can this be false?”
uf “Why don‘t you think about why he promised to marry you but didn‘t say that he would love you
forever?”
Lexie‘s hand on her knees tightened. She was a little flustered, but her face did not reveal any of it.
“He is not good with words. So, he didn‘t put it like that.”
“You are wrong.” Cecilia negated her, “That‘s because Joshua doesn‘t like you at all. Or maybe he has feelings for you, but it is not pure love. It is mixed with something else.”
Lexie cursed Cecilia inwardly. “Mrs. Maltz, you are not Joshua after all. You don‘t know what he really thinks. In my opinion, he loves me with all his heart.”
“I am his mother. How can I not know what my son thinks? During the year he was married to Anaya, although he treated her coldly, he had feelings for her.
“Although he‘s divorced, he still stays near Anaya. Do you really not understand his heart, or are you pretending not to know?”
Hearing that, Aracely excitedly grabbed Anaya‘s hand and tried her best to control the volume of her voice. “Damn, big news! Joshua actually likes you!”
Anaya indifferently pulled her hand away. “Your mother said you had a crush on a punk and wanted me to advise you to stay away from him. Do you like that punk?”
Aracely didn‘t reply.
Thinking of that punk who pestered her all day long, Aracely instantly calmed down.
Aracely didn‘t like him or want to hear about him.
Next door, Lexie spoke again, pretending to be confused. “I don‘t understand what you are talking
about.”
“Lexie.” The last trace of fake kindness on Cecilia‘s face disappeared. “If you know what‘s good for
you, you‘d better take 800 thousand dollars and leave immediately. I will never agree to your marriage with him. If you drag this on for too long. I won‘t even give you 80 dollars.”
‘l won‘t take any money from you. Mrs. Maltz, don‘t waste your time. I won‘t leave Joshua.”
Lexie never pretended in front of Anaya. Her eyes were full of disgust and hatred. “I was wondering
“Don‘t you know how to keep your voice down when you are talking about personal issues in public? You actually came to blame us for hearing it. I think your voice is unpleasant to hear and disturbs my mood to eat with Anaya!”
After venting her anger, Lexie turned around and left.
