Chapter 904: You Have to Put in More Effort

Editor: EndlessFantasy Translation

As Gao Lang stepped into the house, he noticed that Gao Ming was nowhere to be found. After inquiring with his mother, he learned that his son had just gone out to ride bikes with the children from the Su family.

A wave of disappointment washed over him as he set down the toys and snacks he had brought. “Then I’ll wait for him to come back. It’s been a while since I’ve seen him,” he said.

Grandma Gao, observing his son’s attitude, felt a mix of confusion and joy. It was a relief to see him concerned about his child. “Look at you! You finally realized you’re Gao Ming’s father. It’s not too late!” she exclaimed with a smile. “You haven’t had lunch, right? I’ll make you a bowl of egg noodles.”

“Hmm,” Gao Lang replied, and Grandma Gao, satisfied, headed to the kitchen. She decided to prepare the noodles herself, without calling for the housekeeper’s help.

When she brought the steaming bowl of egg noodles to the table, she watched him eat with a smile. “I know you too well. You often forget to eat when you’re buried in your research. I figured you hadn’t had lunch again. How’s the seasoning? It’s been a while since you’ve had this, right?”

Grandma Gao remembered that her son had always loved her egg noodles, a dish he had enjoyed since childhood and never seemed to tire of. If there was one redeeming quality about her otherwise serious son, it was his easygoing nature when it came to food.

He was diligent in his studies and rarely troubled her about meals, always accepting whatever she offered. Grandma Gao’s cooking skills were modest, limited mainly to simple dishes like noodle soup, which meant she often prepared a bowl of egg noodles to satisfy him.

For many years, Gao Lang had indulged in his mother’s egg noodles. Even after hiring a housekeeper, he still preferred the ones she made, never once complaining about their simplicity.

After finishing his meal, Gao Lang settled in the living room to wait for Gao Ming. He remained there until two o’clock in the afternoon, when he finally spotted his son returning home.

Gao Ming parked his bicycle in the yard and skipped into the house, but as soon as he caught sight of Gao Lang, his smile faltered, and his earlier excitement faded. He turned to his grandmother, asking, “Why is he back?”

Gao Ming harbored no fondness for his father. In the past, he had yearned for moments spent together with his parents and younger brother, but now, that desire had vanished. He found joy in the company of Aunt Gu Zi, Su Li, and Su Le. He preferred Su Li’s father and didn’t care for his own dad, who, in Gao Ming’s eyes, seemed indifferent to him. It was easier for them to just dislike each other.

Grandma Gao sensed the tension between her grandson and son. She knew that Gao Ming had developed a deep resentment toward his father.
