"What? Punishment?" Francis stared at Charlotte, dumbfounded by the word. It struck him like a slap in the face, sparking a furious anger in his chest.
"I've worked hard to find them the perfect future husbands, and yet, in just a few words, you've dismissed everything I've done! When did I punish them? They'll have a bright future ahead of them, and they'll never go hungry or want for anything. How is that punishment?
"Marrying some poor boy… Now, that's punishment, don't you think?" Francis' voice was filled with fury, and his face was red with anger.
"They haven't even been in a relationship before. Why are you so sure they'll end up with some poor kid? They're both exceptional. Of course, they'll attract someone just as great!
"Someone who's already accomplished isn't going to fall behind, so what's the problem? You've overstepped this time. They are my daughters, and I won't let you decide who they marry!"
Charlotte stood up, positioning herself protectively in front of her daughters. She couldn't stand what Francis was doing.
After all, as someone who was born into a prestigious family from the capital, how could she not see through his intentions?
He was clearly selling her daughters off!
Francis wanted to sacrifice their happiness in exchange for his own position in the capital. It was nothing less than a full-blown scheme.
Francis slammed his hand on the table, and his face twisted in fury. Having drunk a little, his emotions were on edge.
He couldn't tolerate Charlotte defying him, especially when she had dared to say those words.
