"But Dad promised us just that," Anna said softly, her voice filled with confusion.
Charlotte let out a mocking laugh, her eyes filled with contempt.
"I know exactly what kind of man Francis is. He managed to turn an illegitimate child into his adopted son and kept him in the Sterling family for all these years. His schemes are far more complicated than you can imagine!
"Do you really think that you can just refuse to marry them if it doesn't work out after meeting those two?" Charlotte's words were cutting, and her gaze bore into them intensely.
Julia's and Anna's eyes widened, and their minds were reeling like an earthquake had just struck. Their expressions shifted to one of disbelief.
"That… That wouldn't happen, right? There are so many young elites in the capital. Why would they like us?" Julia was confused.
"Hmph! Who says there have to be reasons?" Charlotte snapped. "This isn't some far-fetched possibility. What if it happens? What if they like you, but you don't like them? Do you really think your father will just let you refuse?"
"Well…"
Julia and Anna's expressions darkened, and their brows furrowed tightly. They couldn't help but imagine the consequences.
No matter how they thought about it, one result was inevitable.
The Sterling family was no match for the powerful families in the capital, and they would be at their mercy. Even if they wanted to resist, they wouldn't have the opportunity to do so.
"So, what should we do? Do we just have to let Dad introduce us to our future husbands?" Anna asked, her voice filled with worry.
