The entire room felt heavy with tension. There was an eerie silence that blanketed the place, which made the air feel colder, as if a chill had swept through.

None of them were smiling. Instead, everyone stared uncomfortably at one another.

The atmosphere became unbearably awkward, especially for the members of the Sterling family. They were completely taken aback, and their expressions grew increasingly blank.

"What? Did you just say the call wasn't from Gardens High but Riverside High?" Francis' voice rose, echoing across the room.

"But Morgan attends Gardens High, so why would we be getting a call from Riverside High?" Lily muttered in confusion.

The others exchanged puzzled looks—it didn't make any sense.

"Riverside High..." Anna whispered, a thought forming in her mind that sent a jolt of shock through her. The only person from the Sterlings attending Riverside High was Hayden. But could he be doing that well?

"Are you sure you guys didn't make any mistakes? Why would Riverside High be calling us?" Charlotte said, her voice tinged with urgency. "Please check again—it shouldn't be hard to verify since my son did quite well in his last mock exam!"

"He got full marks in math, so please look into it immediately!" Charlotte urged again in an anxious tone. She didn't want any delay that might jeopardize Morgan's school placement.

"We haven't recorded any perfect scores lately. If we had, the administration would've been notified," the principal responded, lowering his stance as he addressed Charlotte. "Mrs. Sterling, I'm really sorry, but the call was indeed from Riverside High. Maybe you should check with Riverside High?"

He couldn't shake a suspicion of his own—could there be someone from Riverside High who actually scored a perfect math score? If that got out, it would be a huge deal.

Gardens High had always been the top school in the area, known for its stellar faculty. Hence, it would be embarrassing if they were to be overshadowed by a lesser-known school such as Riverside High.
