Greta shoved the urn towards Miranda. "I can't afford a burial plot for him. Do you want the urn? If not, I'm thinking of scattering his ashes at sea."
Miranda burst into tears. "He cared about you the most. How could you treat him like this? It's one thing not to have a burial plot, but you're not even giving him a funeral? At least hold a memorial to honor him."
Greta's face hardened. "Have you seen how tough my life is? What you're asking is unreasonable. Who told you to be so naive and hand the house over to Nathalie?"
Miranda could only sob in response.
Greta tossed the urn to her and stormed off.
But then Miranda wheeled after her, calling out, "Greta, if you hold a funeral, it won't be a loss for you."
Greta stopped, intrigued. "What do you mean?"
"Your dad was a CEO. He knew lots of important people. When someone like him dies, they usually send condolence money. You could use some of that to cover his burial costs and keep the rest."
Greta, desperate for cash, softened a bit. "You finally did something right."
When Nathalie got home, she soon found an invitation from Greta for Patrick's funeral.
Nathan grabbed the invitation, tossed it in the trash, and hugged her from behind. "You always feel terrible after seeing them. Stop going. That mother and daughter just want you to pay for the funeral."
Nathalie, cheered by Nathan, said playfully, "With you as my support, I'm quite the little rich lady now. I'm not scared of their tricks."
