No matter how cold the winter gets, it eventually gives way to spring.
After Nathalie said her goodbyes to Nathan, she spent days holed up at home, sunk deep into despair. She neither ate nor drank, drifting around like a ghost. If it weren't for Lizzy, who sneakily mixed nutrients into her soups and broths, forcing her to take sips, Nathalie might not have made it.
Lizzy had enormous respect for Nathalie, but seeing her in such a state of self-neglect made her anxious. Every day, she'd gently coax her, “Sis, you've got to pull yourself together. You promised to get revenge for him. You wanted everyone who hurt him to pay, remember?”
“And what about your dad, huh? Have you given up on Mr. Lincoln? Aren’t you worried about how he’s doing? The doctor said we were being irresponsible, leaving him all alone in the hospital. Sis, you should go see him. You’re all he’s got.”
Nathalie stayed quiet and unmoved.
“Sis, do you really want him to be unable to rest in peace?” Lizzy pleaded, shaking Nathalie’s arm slightly. “Nathan may not have been here long, but his life was all about you. He worked so hard, laying a foundation for you. Are you just going to let all that go to waste?”
Finally, Lizzy’s words stirred something in Nathalie.
Her face, once void of life, showed a hint of resolve. “You’re right, Lizzy. I can’t let Nathan’s efforts go down the drain.”
She wobbled to her feet, her frail body even weaker from days without food, like she might topple over at any moment.
Clinging to Lizzy for support, she instructed, “Lizzy, bring out the files. Starting today, I'm diving into them.”
