Nathalie's glare was as sharp as a knife. Miranda flinched in fear. Meanwhile, Lincoln was hit hard, standing frozen except for his trembling fingertips. He looked at Nathalie with deep sorrow, his tears unstoppable as they trickled down his cheeks. "Vivian, it's my fault. I saw the sadness in your eyes, but I was too scared to ask, afraid of reopening your wounds. I had no idea how tough things have been for you."
Miranda played it off, trying to comfort Lincoln with a carefree attitude. "Oh, that guy was just a puppet, something Nathalie held onto for comfort."
Nathalie's eyes flared with rage. Lincoln noticed her clenched fists but wasn’t swayed by Miranda’s dismissive words.
"All these years, her mom and I weren't around for Vivian. She must've felt so alone. If there was someone, even if not really alive, who was there for her, I'd be grateful and cherish them."
Lincoln turned to Nathalie with reassurance. "Vivian, don’t be upset. Every doll, if you find its maker, can be restored."
His words were like a glimmer of hope in the darkness, stirring something in Nathalie’s heavy heart. Her eyes, once dull, now sparkled with possibility. Could finding Nathan’s creator mean he could come back?
"Yes," Nathalie nodded.
Miranda scoffed, "Oh, come on. That doll can't be fixed. You have no idea how destructive that robot was. If it comes back, who knows what could happen?"
Nathalie’s face twisted in anger. "Shut up."
Her fury left Miranda and Lincoln speechless. Miranda, emboldened by Lincoln’s presence, continued recklessly. "Look at your daughter, Lincoln. What a temper! I don't know who she takes after. You and Maya are so calm."
