Nathalie shot Greta a glare, clearly annoyed.
Greta mouthed at her, "Just give it up already."
She seemed so certain Lincoln would back her up. Nathalie couldn't figure out where Greta got all that confidence from.
Without much pause, Lincoln turned to Greta and said, "Greta, I'm sorry, but this time I'm going to have to let you down. My daughter Vivian doesn't often ask for my help, and as her dad, I'm going to support her all the way."
Greta looked like she'd been slapped, her cheeks turning a deep shade of red.
Nathalie couldn't help but smirk a little. She shot a mocking glance at Greta, "Go tell your husband to find another mall."
Greta, determined not to give up, tried again with Lincoln, "Uncle, I'm not playing favorites here. My sister's decision is really not sensible. I mean, the Dawson family and the Stewart family already have a contract. The Dawson family has the first dibs on renewing it."
Even though Lincoln had stepped away from the business scene for years, his sharp mind wasn't easily fooled. He asked, "Do the Dawson family meet the mall's leasing terms?"
Greta replied, "Well, mostly."
Lincoln raised an eyebrow, "Mostly? So, there are parts that don't?"
"That's because my sister suddenly jacked up the rent and extended the lease term. The Dawson family can't handle the high rent."
Lincoln said, "Greta, you’ve got to see it from a growth perspective. The mall used to be out in the sticks, but now it’s in a bustling area. Isn’t it fair to raise the rent?"
Greta was left speechless.
"You're right, Uncle," she finally admitted.
