Reborn From Oblivion (Nellie and Cameron) novel Chapter 719

He sat there, as still as a statue.

At the Dawson Estate, Greta had been running herself into the ground for days on end, and her body finally waved the white flag. That evening, after a long soak in the bath, she wrapped herself in a towel and frantically knocked on Cameron's bedroom door.

“What’s up?” Cameron asked, his face giving nothing away.

“Cameron, my foot’s swollen,” she said, tears welling up in her eyes.

Cameron heard her but just gave a slight frown.

Greta started venting, “I said my foot is swollen! Didn’t you hear me?”

Cameron shot her a stern look. “What good does yelling at me do? I told you before—your health should come first. But you’re the one who insisted on chasing that sense of achievement at work.”

Greta sobbed, “What else could I have done? I married you and haven’t had a good day since. I’m sick, and you can’t even afford my treatment. I have to bust my butt just to pay for my own healthcare!”

“So what now?” Cameron asked. “Quit your job and focus on getting better?”

Greta hesitated.

Cameron was irritated. “What’s there to think about?”

Greta explained, “Cameron, you don’t get it. Uncle really values me. Compared to Nathalie, he trusts me more. People at work even say Uncle favors me and gives me the big responsibilities. So, you see, if I stick around at Stewart Enterprises, I might just be his pick for successor.”

Cameron couldn’t help but chuckle. “You really believe that?”

“I’m not making this up. Uncle never gives Nathalie any important tasks. He’d rather she just hang out at home and enjoy herself. But he trusts me enough to let me negotiate with the big clients on his behalf.”

Cameron was taken aback.

“That’s hard to believe.”
