The ambulance, with its lights flashing, swiftly whisked Nina away. Cameron trailed behind like a lost soul, following it all the way to the hospital. Once there, Nina was rushed into the ICU, leaving Cameron to slump helplessly in a corner outside.
"Cameron."
Nathalie's voice cut through the air like a whip. The last person Cameron wanted to face right now was Nathalie—he was at a loss for words.
With eyes blazing like a storm, Nathalie charged at him, grabbing his collar and unleashing her fury, "You promised you'd protect her. Cameron, you heartless jerk. She's your daughter, how could you push her to the edge? Where's your conscience?"
"I'm sorry, Nathalie." Those three words were all Cameron could muster, unsure how else to calm her storm.
Nathalie let him go, but her words were sharper than any knife: "It's not your fault. It's mine. I knew you were irresponsible, but she craved a father's love so badly, and I let her go for it. I practically tossed her to the wolves..."
Cameron turned pale as a sheet. "You think I'm the devil?"
Nathalie looked at him, baffled by his cluelessness: "You're worse. You have this knack for tearing apart anyone who dares to love you."
Cameron's tall frame started to shake.
But Nathalie wasn’t done: "Cameron, what do I owe you? Why do you put me through this? You took my kidney, wrecked me, and now Nathan's gone too, and next, it's my daughter..."
Her eyes, filled with a fierce determination, bore into his: "What do you want from me? What will it take for you to leave me be?"
