Nathalie headed back to her bedroom and, without missing a beat, dove into Ashley’s social media like an investigator on a mission, poring over every single post.
Ashley was the epitome of living large. Her social media was a gallery of her glamorous life—luxury bags, fancy teas, and her crew of high-society friends.
But her fiancé? Practically invisible. He only popped up in some older posts.
In one of those rare glimpses, he was in a wheelchair, shrouded in the night’s shadows, his handsome face just barely visible. Yet, his undeniable charisma shone through; even seated, he exuded an impressive aura. Ashley’s caption was filled with pride: “Now I truly understand love at first sight. Wow, such a handsome guy—he’s totally stolen my heart. I’ve decided, I’m going after him. No one better stand in my way.”
During that time, Ashley’s social media was buzzing with activity.
“What if he ignores me?”
“Grandpa’s got my back; he’s like two of me.”
“We’re engaged!”
“Marrying the love of my life—I can’t even put into words how happy I am.”
In a photo, two hands were locked together, and Nathalie noticed the scars on the man’s hand.
A strange emptiness settled in her chest.
She tossed her phone aside and stared blankly at the ceiling.
So, Nathan was supposed to be hers?
And Morris was Ashley’s?
Realizing this left Nathalie feeling embarrassed.
Was she really competing with Ashley?
Morris had protected her forever; now that he finally found someone special, shouldn’t she be big-hearted enough to accept it and wish them well?
Nathalie, frustrated, asked, “What are you holding onto?”
Nina said, “I don’t even know.”
With frustration bubbling over, Nathalie stormed into Cameron’s room, kicking the door open. Cameron was asleep, Greta nestled in his arms.
Startled by the noise, they both woke up. Seeing Nathalie, Greta clung tighter to Cameron, a smug smile on her face.
Cameron frowned and asked, “Nathalie, what’s your deal now?”
Nathalie raised her fist at Greta. “Unless you want to end up like him, scrambling for your teeth, you better scram.”
Nathalie’s fierce demeanor both shocked and intimidated Greta.
Grudgingly, Greta got up, muttering, “Nathalie, with an attitude like that, what man would put up with you?”
