No. 13's eyes brimmed with a frantic unease. "Depression? Cyberbullying?"
He swallowed hard, his Adam's apple moving prominently. It was like he'd gulped down something jagged, and his face twisted in discomfort.
"What about Lincoln? What's he up to?" he growled lowly.
Officer Baldwin gave him a curious look. "You know Lincoln?"
No. 13's expression said it all—it was a no-brainer.
Officer Baldwin remembered that No. 13 had built a tech empire with surveillance systems practically everywhere. It wasn't surprising he had access to some secret info. Baldwin decided to let it slide.
"Mr. Lincoln's been super worried about his daughter. Since the incident, he hasn't left Ashley's side. Still, he's a guy and might not fully get what's going on in a young woman's head. Whether Ashley's condition truly improves is still up in the air."
"Depression's a tough nut to crack."
No. 13's fingers quivered slightly.
After a long pause, No. 13 asked Officer Baldwin, "So, how much can my sentence be cut down?"
Officer Baldwin explained, "During the trial, the judge said if you pay back all the debts, your sentence could change from life to something like eight to ten years."
"You really should get a good lawyer."
No. 13 was quiet for a moment, then said, "Can you deliver a message to Ashley for me?"
"Sure, what is it?"
"Ask her to hire Scottie for me."
Officer Baldwin was a bit shocked. "You mean that superstar lawyer, Scottie? I've heard he's got quite the attitude. He doesn't care about money, only if he vibes with the client. But he's never lost a case."
"Yep, that's the one."
"If he takes your case, you're looking at the lightest sentence possible. But I've heard the Rowland family matriarch is on a mission to get the best lawyer to extend your sentence. They might be eyeing Scottie too."
"I just didn't want you to see it."
"Then block me."
Ashley: "..."
"What were you hoping to find on my social media?"
Nathalie, as straightforward as ever, replied, "Actually, I do need your help."
She gestured for Ashley to have a seat. "Take a seat first."
Then she called her secretary over. "Could you get Ms. Nellie a drink?"
Ashley stared at her with wide eyes. "Spit it out already."
Nathalie, never one to mince words, blurted out, "I want to know how Morris got all those injuries."
