Scottie asked, "Ashley, why should I believe you?"
Nathalie hesitated for a moment. She clenched her teeth, furrowed her brow, and thought long and hard. Finally, with genuine sincerity, she said, "Scottie, all the money from Maple Company was Nathan's doing. Aren't you curious why he'd give me billions but risk everything for just a few hundred million?"
Scottie pondered this.
Nathalie pleaded again, "Scottie, you have to meet him. You'll see he's truly good at heart. If you can't help him, at least don't harm him. I'm begging you."
Scottie noticed the light in her eyes, like they were holding the entire universe. It made him really want to trust her.
"Ashley, I'll think about it."
In the prison yard, the soft morning light slipped through the high walls, lighting up the vast space. No. 13 looked at the sky beyond the barrier, feeling for the first time how clean and vividly blue it was.
He was so lost in thought that he didn’t notice Officer Baldwin quietly approach.
"No. 13, Scottie wants to see you."
No. 13's perfectly handsome face showed a flicker of surprise. He turned his head slowly.
Officer Baldwin added, "I know you don't want visitors. But Scottie said Ashley begged him to come."
No. 13 nodded silently.
Officer Baldwin guided No. 13 to the visiting window. Through the small pane, Scottie saw the infamous economic criminal. His first impression was unexpected; No. 13 looked so dignified, not at all like someone evil or purely innocent and grateful.
Scottie chuckled, "Seeing really is believing. Mr. Morris, you're neither the villain of rumors nor the saint some claim."
No. 13 couldn't help but smile, "Did Ashley convince you like that?" His smile was warm and indulgent.
