Chapter 162 The Trap
The rescue mission went on for a couple of hours, and they found someone.
The person was drenched in crimson, their suit in tatters. However, when his face was shown, though caked in blood, Kate found herself reinvigorated, and she huddled closer. With a quaking voice, she asked, “Lucas! Eric must be here. He must be!”
Lucas remained conscious and had taken refuge in a corner, sustaining only minor injuries. When he heard Kate’s voice, he responded faintly, “Mr. Eric is still in there, but we’re not together
A flicker of guilt shimmered in his eyes. “It’s all on me. I was ensnared and brought calamity upon Mr. Eric!”
Lucas’s voice broke as his body trembled, emotions unravelling uncontrollably. He was swiftly escorted to the ambulance for his injuries and to calm his turbulent state.
Upon hearing Lucas’s confession, Kate’s legs wobbled, her sight momentarily fading, struggling to keep upright.
“Ric
Eric!” Kate whispered, before dashing into the wreckage, clawing through the debris in a desperate search for any sign of Eric.
“Kate, you must rest! Your hands are bleeding!” Hendrick implored, hurrying to her side.
Kate shook her head with resolve. “No, Hendrick, Ric is down there. I can’t abandon him in the darkness!”
Her eyes shone with unyielding determination, inspiring the firefighters around her to intensify their efforts.
George and Miles silently continued their search through the wreckage. Hours passed, yet Eric remained unfound.
Two more souls were pulled from the debris, strangers, lifeless. They were not Eric.
Lucas, his wounds dressed, was advised to seek further medical attention at the hospital. Het refused, détermined to stay with Kate, awaiting Eric’s rescue.
