Kate was fully absorbed in watching Eric’s meeting footage. Even though such materials were supposed to be internal to Davison Group, Kate had access to them as the mistress of Davison Group.

As she watched, Kate’s focus drifted from what was being said in Eric’s meeting to Eric himself.

This recording was shot three years earlier before they had tied the knot. Eric always presented a stoic face, showing no mercy and being direct in his approach with everyone, his demeanour cold and his decisions final.

The staff at Davison Group looked up to him.

Eric had this chilly vibe around him back then, like his stare alone could make your blood run cold. No one had the guts to go against him or stir trouble.

Watching the screen, Kate felt a strong sense of unfamiliarity with this old version of Eric, an almost tangible pressure.

“What’s got you watching this video?” Eric’s voice was even–tempered.

Snapping back to reality, Kate noticed Eric watching her closely. She told him straight. “I’m just here. You’re still on the mend, and there’s so much I can pick up from watching this video.”

After a moment, Eric looked at her briefly, then said, “You know, you really don’t need to bother with this stuff.”

He was about clearing the path for her, removing hurdles and ensuring she was shielded from trouble. He made it clear that with him, Eric, around, nothing wrong would ever touch her.

Even with the east city crisis, he had already got Davison Group’s PR team on the job to deal with anyone slinging mud at Kate online, taking them to court if needed and getting bans in place.

The PR team at Davison Group always acted on Eric’s word.

The team prioritised Kate’s matters even if he wasn’t there or incapacitated.

Looking deep into Eric’s earnest eyes, Kate moved closer. She hugged him gently, murmuring, “Ric, I can’t always be in your shadow.”

Her voice was gentle yet determined. “I also want to be by your side, to face challenges together rather than just being protected by you, like a vase resting safely on a shelf.”
