Reborn, Reawakened, Rekindled novel Chapter 218

Neil was, of course, a total control freak. I've always known that. But he couldn't just run my life!

So, when he doesn't love me, I should just stay away from him, and when he does, I should immediately play along?

"I thought you've changed." I was really disappointed, "But it turns out, my resentment towards you and my suffering mean less to you than your control freak tendencies."

Neil's eyes flickered, but he didn't say anything.

What a joke. With all the chaos at home, he was still trying to push me around.

"I won't back down, Neil. If you think I don't have it bad enough, feel free to keep tormenting me. For instance, you could've refused to help me with the SaintlyBio Corporation mess and left me to deal with it myself. That should satisfy your sick mind." I looked up, speaking calmly.

Neil gritted his teeth, "Sick mind? Is my inability to let you go also a sign of my sick mind?"

"But I've let you go. I'm not your property; you can't just have me when you want me and discard me when you don't. Neil, can you respect me a little? Is it because I used to be blindly infatuated with you, so you're used to seeing me without any dignity?" I asked, feeling a bit bitter.

Once, I was like a satellite, revolving around Neil on the orbit he set, with no sense of self.

But that was by choice. I didn't blame anyone.

Neil seemed frustrated by my words. He looked down at my hand and said, "Let go. We shouldn't be talking through a door."

I didn't want him to force me to let go, so I let go first. With the door open, we faced each other.

"I know I messed up before. I can apologize a thousand times, ten thousand times, but all I want is a chance to make amends." Neil's expression softened a bit when he saw me let go.

"That's all in the past; can we not bring it up? I already have a boyfriend." I felt drained.

Neil's expression changed instantly. His somewhat relaxed face turned tense again upon hearing my words.

I asked him, "What about Bonnie? Scarlett? One was your fiancée, and the other was your rumored girlfriend. Have you ever thought about their feelings?"

"No." Neil's answer was firm, without any hesitation, even though both women loved him.

A long time ago, Stella warned me: never expect any decency from Neil.

I thought she didn't understand Neil at the time. But she was right.

A man who is at the peak of his career is definitely not a good person.

"Neil, we're not right for each other. Please, can we just stop this?" I realized that being sarcastic was useless, so I softened my tone and pleaded with him.

Neil's eyes were filled with hurt. He tried to touch my face but stopped after his fingers trembled, "I wish I could, but I can't. I once told you that I would never give up on you."

Hearing his words, I felt desperate.

I know him too well. As long as Neil doesn't want to let go, I won't be able to escape.

I fell into the mess I had struggled so hard to leave.

Since words won't work, I would just stay silent, and tried to leave.

I had barely taken two steps when Neil grabbed me from behind. He buried his head in my neck, as if begging, "Can you give me one last chance? You've tolerated me for ten years. Can't you give me a little more time?"

I lay in bed, listening to Russel's voice on the phone, but Neil's pleading words were still echoing in my mind. I was in a mess. I didn't respond.

"Did you fall asleep?" Russel asked when I didn't respond.

"No. I was just getting clothes, getting ready to take a bath." I made up an excuse.

Upon hearing that, Russel quickly said, "Alright, I won't disturb you then, so you don't go to bed even later."

"Good night." I said gently.

After hanging up, I stared at the ceiling. I put my hand on my stomach, thinking of the child I never got to meet, and felt a wave of pain.

Each time I get stuck in my memories, thinking of the child helps me regain my sanity. My hatred for Bonnie and my resistance towards Neil tangled together.

In a whirlwind of thoughts, I fell into a deep sleep. I had a long dream. In the dream, I was chasing Neil, but suddenly Russel appeared. He took my hand and led me in a different direction.

But in the middle of our sprint, Neil popped up again, blocking our way with a nasty look in his eyes.

When I woke up, my head was pounding like a drum, and my body felt like it was on fire. I managed to sit up, fish out the thermometer, and take my temperature. Turned out, I had a fever.

"Cough, cough, cough..." A fierce coughing fit hit me next, along with a tightness in my chest.

I grabbed my car keys, thinking I'd drive myself to the hospital, but before I could even make it downstairs, I started feeling dizzy from the high fever and almost passed out.

I had no choice but to crawl back to my room and make a call for help.
