Amid the roar of the car engine, I kept my foot on the gas.

It wasn't until I noticed something off about Bonnie that I stopped.

Bonnie looked pale; she didn't have the time to ask me anything. Instead, she quickly took some pills from her bag, swallowing them without even a sip of water.

"Beat it, don't bug me!" I shot her a cold look and told her to get out of the car.

Bonnie had a heart condition. I had no idea whether she had had a transplant since Gloria took her on as a goddaughter. Even if she had, she wouldn't have been able to handle any shocks.

Bonnie didn't move; she just patted her chest, as if she were calming herself down.

After a bit, she regained some color in her face and pulled out another thing from her bag, tossing it in front of me, "I'm not going to beat around the bush. Just sign this."

It was a document. I took a quick look and couldn't help but laugh, "Bonnie, do you really think you can buy my family's company like this?"

Bonnie sounded like she was looking out for me, "Irene, given your family's current state, why are you still holding on? Why not let go of this burden? If anything happens to your company, it's going to affect your dad. He's already in a pickle; you can't let him suffer more, can you?"

"I don't need you meddling in my family's business. Bonnie, do you really think it's worth turning yourself into what you are now for a man?" I shot back.

At least the old Bonnie would have never shown such a detestable side.

Bonnie was taken aback, then she put on a mocking smile and asked, "Don't I look good now? I'm doing better than before, and I even have the ability to get back at you."

"If you could have resisted the allure of material things back then, maybe you'd still be with Oscar, preparing to get married like a normal couple. Maybe Neil would still love you and be willing to give you his all. You're the one who changed; blaming me won't do any good, get it?" I felt a little sad for Bonnie.

Bonnie didn't take my words to heart. From her hate-filled eyes, I could tell how much she despised me.

She fixed her long hair and said, "I have never regretted breaking up with that poor guy, Oscar Morse. You don't have to lecture me with your cheesy lines; you'd better spend this time thinking about selling your company."

After saying that, she got out of the car, leaving the document in the car.

I rolled down the window, tore the document in half, and threw it out. It landed near Bonnie's feet.

She looked surprised when she saw the torn document on the ground, then she glared at me angrily.

I didn't bother to look at her again. I just turned around and left, no matter how much she hated me.

But Bonnie's words that day reminded me that they would definitely take action against my family's company. So I needed to get the support of my uncles as soon as possible.

Since one of my uncle, Lucas's house was quite far from Rosemont, I had to work overtime for a couple of days to take care of the important work before I could have set off for Lucas' house.

Just as I was leaving the Sapphire River Community, I ran into Kitty. She had a shoulder bag on and was looking around at the gate. When she saw me, she immediately came over to stop me, "Irene!"

"Why are you here?" I stopped the car to ask her.

"I came to look for Neil, but I can't get in. Can you help me?" Kitty leaned against the car window, her eyes pleading.

I hadn't seen Neil for a couple of days; he probably didn't live there all the time.

Without thinking too much, I got out of the car to help Kitty swipe her card and let her in.

She was very touched, "Thanks, Irene. Where are you off to?"

Before I could figure out what was going on, I saw Neil getting out of his car and striding towards mine.

I rolled down the window a third of the way and turned to look at Neil outside, "What are you doing here? Are you stalking me?"

"Where did you learn this habit of always blocking people?" Neil bent down to look at me, his eyes dark as night.

He came all that way just for that?

I was in a bad mood and spoke in a low voice, "Sorry, I was busy and couldn't be distracted. Didn't you say you wouldn't bother me again?"

Neil's face darkened, and he said coldly, "I did say that, but only if you stopped provoking me first."

"Did I?" I asked, puzzled.

"You brought Kitty to the Sapphire River Community, causing her to harass me at home. Isn't that you looking for trouble?" Neil was very displeased, "Do you know? She's really annoying."

I've always thought that Neil liked the feeling of being bothered; otherwise, why would that girl always be around him?

"Neil, you used to say I was a pain in the ass. Doesn't that ring a bell?" I tried to reason with him patiently, "You should give this girl a shot; her personality is a perfect counterbalance to yours."

Neil cut me off, more than a little irked, "No way!"

I was left speechless for a moment.

He stared at me and asked, "Now I think you and I could balance each other out too; do you want to give it a try?"
