Reborn, Reawakened, Rekindled novel Chapter 241

There I was, all alone in the office. I took a deep breath, opened the document on my desk, and started looking into it seriously.

It was a photocopy. When I finished reading it, I was floored. I couldn't believe what was in it.

Then I rushed home with the document, where Harold happened to be. After I handed him the document and we discussed it for a while, he called his friend.

The guy who had promised to help us understand the situation confirmed the authenticity of the document after he learned what was in it.

"How could this be?" I couldn't believe it. My dad had always been so straight-arrow; how could he have abused his power?

Harold sighed deeply. "He may have been trying to get back at StarGlow Enterprises, Rena. Your father may be in trouble. If he faces legal sanctions, you need to be prepared."

I felt like I couldn't breathe, like there was a rock on my chest.

My dad had approved the documents a while ago. They had his signature and official seal on them, but they were all about StarGlow Enterprises.

That showed that he abused his power to deal with StarGlow Enterprises.

"He's so impulsive. He was so close to retirement. How could he mess things up like this?" Harold looked troubled.

I sat there, crying silently, not knowing what to do next.

What was done was done. I couldn't change it. My dad's character would have made him admit his mistake voluntarily; he wouldn't make excuses. So then I had to face the possibility that my dad might go to jail, and my mom was already in a vegetative state, so I had to take on the company and the family alone.

I don't have time to grieve. I wiped away my tears and got straight back to work.

Before long, the news of my breakup with Russel and my father being sentenced both hit the trending topics. People were guessing that Russel broke up with me because he didn't want to get dragged down, and I announced the breakup first because of my pride.

"Mr. Russel, Ms. Finch is in a meeting. She's not here!"

While I was working, I heard my assistant's voice from outside. She raised her voice on purpose so that I could hear her.

I was startled and was about to get up when the door was pushed open. Russel rushed in, drenched from head to toe. The weather's pretty cold and it was raining outside. Wasn't he afraid of catching a cold?

My assistant looked at me helplessly. "Ms. Finch, Mr. Russel showed up out of the blue. I couldn't stop him..."

"It's okay, you can leave." I waved her off.

After my assistant left, Russel and I stared at each other for a long time. His eyes were full of anger, resentment, and pain.

I was the first one to break the silence. "Why are you here?"

"Why did you break up with me?" Russel's eyes welled up with tears as soon as he said that. He moved closer to me and stared at me.

"Russel, I'm sorry." I clenched my fists, suppressing the guilt in my heart, trying to make myself look unemotional.
