I froze. Just as I opened my eyes, the hand on my neck tightened slowly. The feeling of being unable to breathe was extremely unsettling.
Neil Whitmore looked menacingly cold and shockingly ruthless. His gaze was sharper than a knife.
“Where’s Stella? Why is it you?” I forced myself to speak, pushing Neil’s hand away.
“Do you want other people to see you seducing men?” Neil’s fingers gripped me hard and then let go. He questioned me angrily.
He dared to question me?
A surge of anger erupted from within me. I was incredibly furious. “Let go of me! You jerk! What right do you have to control me?”
“I have the right because you’re mine now! If not, where’s the sincerity in our reconciliation?” Neil let go of me, his eyes full of possessiveness.
I scoffed, sat up, and grabbed a glass of wine from the table, draining it in one gulp. I wiped the corner of my mouth and turned to Neil, “Do you really care about me? Do you really love me? When you were with me, did you ever think about Karina Aaron?”
“...And your unborn child.” I poured another glass of wine, adding that sentence expressionlessly.
Suddenly, I felt the temperature around me drop sharply, making me want to put on my coat.
Neil probably didn't expect me to know about that, hence his strong reaction.
We remained silent, like two statues.
After a while, Neil spoke, “Who told you?”
“It doesn't matter who told me. The fact is, Karina was pregnant with your child when she committed suicide. What a pity.” I drank glass after glass of wine, never stopping. I didn’t care if my body could take it.
Just as I was about to continue drinking, Neil snatched the wine glass from my hand and threw it into the trash bin, “Enough!”
“Not enough!” I squinted at Neil and said, “Neil, you’re going to hell! Hahaha…”
Neil’s forehead vein throbbed. He stared at me with a ferocious look.
I didn’t care. I was used to that life.
Under his gaze, I picked up the wine bottle and continued to drink heavily, planning to get smashed that night.
Neil snatched the wine bottle from me again and smashed it on the floor. The sound of shattering glass brought the waiters outside rushing in.
The waiter pushed the door in and said, “Excuse me…”
Neil gave her a cold glance. The waiter immediately swallowed her words and quickly closed the door.
“Irene Finch, even if I’m going to hell, I’ll take you with me,” Neil yanked me off the sofa and into his arms. His voice was chilling, “This is the result of your years of provoking me.”
I slapped Neil hard.
I must say, I had become quite proficient at hitting Neil. Even though I was drunk, unsteady and being held tightly by him, I still found a tricky angle.
Although a fight with him would have meant certain defeat, a slap didn’t count as a fight, and Neil wouldn’t have hit me back over that.
Neil’s head tilted slightly. His tongue gently touched the corner of his wounded lip, then he smirked, “My turn now?”
“Alright.” I responded uncomfortably.
Neil was gone. I checked the time and saw it was already half past ten in the morning. He must have gone to the office.
On the contrary, I hadn't been to the office for the past couple of days, instead working remotely.
I felt uncomfortable all over. As I lifted the covers to get out of bed, I realized I was naked. The room was warm, so I hadn’t noticed.
I frowned, found a comfortable and loose set of clothes to wear, and then went downstairs to drink the honey water to relieve my headache.
“Who...who bathed me last night?” After finishing the honey water, I couldn't help but ask the maid.
The maid had an ambiguous smile on her face, “Ms. Finch, we don't know. Last night, Mr. Whitmore didn't call for us.”
My temples throbbed. The thought of Neil bathing me and sleeping naked with me made me furious.
For me, that intimate behavior between lovers was even more outrageous than the sexual act itself.
I silently ate in the dining room until the waiter came to tell me, “Ms. Finch, a lady named Kitty is here to see Mr. Whitmore. What should…”
“Tell her Neil isn't here, and don't let her know I’m here.” I could tell anyone else that I planned to reconcile with Neil and that we were already living together, but I just couldn't bring myself to tell Kitty.
Kitty had the hots for Neil. She was laying her crush on him all out there, while I was stuck playing the sneaky rat, lurking in the shadows, plotting how to swipe what I wanted from Neil.
After the help cleared out, I suddenly lost my appetite and decided to hit the stairs.
