Alpha Theron’s POV
Astrid turned heavy as a log as her consciousness fully slipped away. Her face looked peaceful, her eyes were closed, and her arms were hanging to her sides as I held her up.
I carefully eased Astrid back to her bed, my heart pounding in my chest. I couldn’t erase the memory of how scary she looked out of my mind.
No matter how much I stared at her now innocent and relaxed face, I couldn’t forget the savage look that she had earlier.
The way she gazed at me, she badly wanted to kill me just to shed blood.
Doctor Smith would be here any moment. I hope he will have an explanation for this, and most importantly, I hope there will be a cure for Astrid’s condition.
Doctor Smith just arrived on time, right after I tucked Astrid back into her bed.
He is on full alert, ready to do his job. My son, Andros, followed soon after watching as Doctor Smith ran his tests on my daughter.
“Andros, it’s best for you to wait outside,” I called his attention, making his concerned gaze leave Astrid as he glanced at me.
“It’s better if Doctor Smith could tend to Astrid privately. It’s for her safety,” I spoke, keeping my voice low and steady.
In truth, I was afraid that he would find out something that he shouldn’t. We still had no idea what was going on with Astrid. Until I understand what’s going on, it would be best if only a few people could know about this.
I could see the protest forming on Andros’s lips, but before he could speak, Asha came rushing in, her face etched with concern.
“How is she?” Asha asked as she rushed inside the room.
Asha was in charge of tending to Astrid, but I told her to take her leave earlier while I was there to visit and could carefully watch Astrid.
Asha has been dutifully taking care of Astrid along with Nova, and I know they both have become terribly tired of watching over her.
Asha has been monitoring Astrid’s health and always checking her for any signs of recovery and any illnesses. Meanwhile, Nova had never left Astrid’s company just in case she woke up or something bad happened.
Asha has just left for a while, and something like this has already happened. The concern etched across her face is palpable.
She had left Astrid in good condition, and now this happened.
Asha glared at her brother when Andros quickly stepped in front of her, raising a hand and stopping her from approaching Astrid.
“Alpha, Andros had told me what happened earlier. Is it right that Astrid’s wolf resurfaced ad took control over her body?” Doctor Smith asked carefully.
“Yes, that’s what happened,” I even nodded my head as I replied. “Even Andros saw what happened. You said Astrid’s wolf was dead, but I just met her wolf earlier. What’s going on here?” I demanded.
Doctor Smith’s brows furrowed. “But that is impossible. Miss Astrid’s wolf is already dead. I wasn’t wrong about that.”
My jaw fell open. “Are you doubting my words. I know when a wolf is acting up if I see one, even Andros could attest that Astrid’s wolf was alive. Clearly, you made a mistake,” I pointed out.
Doctor Smith instantly lowered his head, knowing that his mistake could also cost him his life. “I’m telling the truth, Alpha. I’ve checked all her pulse points multiple times, but her wolf wasn’t there. Even my wolf couldn’t feel her wolf spirit.”
“Then what was that? How do you explain what happened?” I demanded, my eyes turning angry as he lacked all the answers I needed.
Doctor Smith was unable to answer for a long time. “This Alpha is already out of my expertise,” he answered with fear.
I scoffed at his words. Out of his expertise? Our Pack is the most advanced when it comes to medicine. How could he have no knowledge about this?
Doctor Smith suddenly dropped to his knees when he heard the dissatisfaction in my voice. “I have no explanation for what happened, Alpha. Even I am confused with Astrid’s condition.”
