Astrid’s POV
“Dad, are you serious?!!!” Asha’s loud voice welcomed us as Alpha Theron, and I left his office. “You’re seriously going to entrust our Pack to an outsider for two more years?! Why can’t you just command Beta Alek to go back instead of letting her be in charge of his duties?!” Asha ran after her father as she yelled at him.
When I glanced at her, she secretly flashed me a murderous glare, showing how much she hated me.
I only let out a deep breath as I averted my gaze, acting like I didn’t see her glaring at me.
Alpha Theron remained silent and kept on walking as his daughter confronted her. With the way that Asha is acting right now, she deserves to get a death sentence.
Even though Alpha Theron is her father, he is an Alpha first. Questioning his decisions is equivalent to rebellion.
Asha is so driven by her anger that she can’t hear her words. She has no idea that she sounded like she wanted to be the Alpha instead.
Luckily for her, her father loves and cares for her so much that he would allow her to speak like that.
Alpha Theron has no idea about the schemes that Asha had done against me because I never told him anything. I don’t want what happened before to happen again when Alpha Theron and Asha fought because of me, which ended up with Asha being grounded in her room.
It is also the reason why I never retaliated against Asha. I had always ignored her for fear that I would lose control of myself and hurt her. I’m sure that Alpha Theron would hold a grudge against me if I lifted a finger on his precious daughter.
“Astrid!” I looked up when I heard Drystan’s familiar voice call my name.
I smiled when I saw him, but my smile didn’t reach my ears. I don’t know how I could tell him that I’d have to stay here and he would have to continue coming here once a week for two more years.
“Have you eaten?” I asked him as soon as he was near me.
Drystan smiled. “Let’s go and eat,” he invited me.
Drystan and I went to a small restaurant to eat. There is a popular restaurant in the Shadowfang Pack, and ever since we tasted their food, we have become a regular customer of their restaurant.
Having a restaurant inside a Pack just shows how big and developed the Shadowfang Pack is. In other Packs, you can’t find small businesses like you do in the Shadowfang Pack.
It’s like living in the city.
Drystan and I silently gorged on our food when our order arrived. The food service is quick here. As soon as we placed our order, it took us only minutes to receive our freshly cooked meal.
It’s already past lunch now, and seeing Drystan eating without saying a word, I knew he had skipped lunch just like me.
Take care, my dear friend, and know that I’ll be back before you know it. Until then, keep smiling and enjoying life to the fullest!
Your best friend, Nova
Aside from the letter, there is also a photo inside the envelope, which is of the beach in Hawaii.
Every month, I would receive a letter from Nova that contained stories about her travels and a picture of the place where she lived.
In the last few months, she’s been staying in cities and sending me pictures of what the city looked like at night.
I had all the pictures she sent me hidden in my cabinet. Sometimes, it’s interesting to look at when I miss her or when I’m feeling bored.
There were times when I felt jealous of Nova, especially if work became too much. She’s traveling the whole world, enjoying herself while I am stuck here at work.
I suddenly felt bad for not wanting her to leave before. If I had forced her to stay, she wouldn’t have been having a good time now. I would have had her stuck with me here in the Pack.
Now that I have realized that, I no longer hold any grudges towards her.
