Chapter 103
FREDA WHITLOCK
I stared at the pile of pancakes that Lyra had served in portions and sighed. For whatever reason, I could not see myself eating it. I was suddenly drained and I was feeling down from the question that Cisco had asked. I was being so obvious with my hatred for Kaiden that Francisco had noticed and had felt the need to ask.
That made me feel horrible. Kaiden was Francisco’s father and even though I hated him, I did not want Francisco hating him just because I did. He barely knew Kaiden, and he did not have a father figure. That had been my fault. It would also be horrible for me to be the reason Francisco sided with me out of loyalty and hated his father.
I sighed and headed towards the cabinet. I wanted a good loaf of bread and since it was not available, I decided to while away my time by baking one. I pulled out all of he ingredients I needed and proceeded to start mixing. I wanted some blueberries in the bread so I fetched them from the fridge. I washed them and set them to the side.
I mixed all of my ingredients into a dough and after kneading, I set it to the side to rise. I washed my hands and let out a sigh. I turned around Lyra and Francisco emerged from the
stac
bedroom area. “Well you guys wanted to take forever in there,” I said, trying my best to make my smile look genuine. I really
wanted to smile, because Francisco always loved it when I smiled.

“What’s going on? What are you doing?” Lyra asked, raising Fransisco unto a stool and then sliding into one herself. “Blueberry bread,” I said, turning away from her. “You’re not having pancakes?” She asked and I could tell from her voice that there was definitely a confused frown on her face. D**n, we knew each other so well, almost like the back of our hands.
“Ohhh, blueberries,” Francisco said, sliding out of his seat and walking towards where I was. “You want some?” I asked, ignoring Lyra’s question. She was going to be annoyed but I was not sure I was up to answering questions.
“Yeah,” he nodded. I lowered the bowl to his reach and he scooped two palm fulls and then headed back to the island. Lyra raised him into his seat once again and he poured the blueberries in his hand unto the side of his pancakes. Lyra poured honey on top of his pancakes, just as he liked but her eyes were still on me.
“You love pancakes. Didn’t I make them well?” She asked, completely confused as to what was going on with me. “The pancakes are fine, Lyra. I just… I want bread,” I said, finally giving her a look that told her that I would explain later. I needed to do that of not she would keep pestering me.
She sighed and nodded, looking down at Cisco as he ate his food almost like he was rushing. “Hey, don’t rush your food. We have enough time to play the word game. It’s not running away,” she said with a chuckle. He looked at her and then me before he smiled with a mouthful.
I smiled too. I could not help it. He was the most adorable of all the adorable children in the world
I heard my phone ringing in the room. “Excuse me,” I said,

walking out of the kitchen area and to my bedroom so I could get it.
It was Cole calling. A small smile touched my lip as I swiped the receive icon and raised the phone to my ear.
“Isn’t it too early in the morning to be calling?” I said with a small smile. “Hello to you too, Ma’am,” he said sarcastically and I could almost see him rolling his eyes. “How are you?” I chuckled, walking out of the room and heading towards the kitchen. I picked up a blueberry and placed it in my mouth. Cisco was guzzling down his food and I could see that Lyra was looking concentrated, but it was not at the food. It was at my call. If she concentrated well enough, she would be able to hear what the person on the other line was saying.
I threw a blueberry at her forehead and she sucked in air through her teeth, glaring at me. I smirked at her and shook my head. She rolled her eyes and went back to eating.
“Actually, I’m great,” he said and I smiled in response. “What might the reason for that be?” I asked. “Because I’m talking to you,” he said and my blood catch on fire and then rush from every part of my body to my face. I knew I would be crimson if I looked in the mirror. I did not want Lyra to see that.
“I heard about the party at the Francisco’s school. Wanna tell me about it?” he asked and I thought about it for a second. “It’s nothing much. It’s just the school trying to make the children appreciate school and look forward to it next session. The parents are invited too. If they need to speak to teachers, they can use the party as an opportunity to, not that they can’t do that outside of the party,” I explained he went silent for a second.

“You’re going, yeah?” He asked and I smiled. “Of course,” I responded and he went silent again. “Would it be alright if I come as Francisco’s father?” He asked and the smile fell of my face.
I glanced at Lyra. She had been looking at me but she was not looking at me in this moment. I headed out to the backyard. through the door. “What?” I finally spoke. “What do you mean?” I asked with great confusion.
“I want to come as his dad. I don’t want him to feel bad about everyone else having their dad there and he would be left out,” he said. I bit my lip, mulling over the thought.
“I…I have already invited his biological father and he’s more than happy to come. I didn’t know you wild have wanted to come,” I said, not exactly knowing the right words to say to him.
“I know…” He said and I knew he was taking a pause. “You know…what?” I asked, almost growing impatient. He let out a small sigh. “I know about you and Kaiden’s situation.” He dropped the bomb.
