Chapter 13 5
FREDA WHITLOCK
“Dad’s place?” Lyra softly asked from where she was, glancing in the rearview mirror. I shook my head and she nodded in
response.

“Are you okay?” Lyra asked, walking into my room without knocking. I looked up at her from the novel I had been reading. Well, trying to read. I had been reading the same line for the past thirty minutes and whether I was willing to admit it or not, it was driving me crazy. I was thankful for her coming in, whether I chose to admit it or not.
“Yeah,” I said in response to her question. I watched her climb into the bed beside me and pull the covers over herself.
We lay together silently before I tucked myself into her side. I laid my head on top of her chest and let out a small sigh. “Francisco…” I said softly.
“He’s asleep.” She responded and I nodded. I had gone to bed as soon as I got home and I had woken up an hour before. It was already dinner time by the time I woke up, but I did not have the appetite to eat or do anything. I attempted reading and that had only frustrated me more.
“Freda, I can explain Lyra whispered and I let out a sigh. “You don’t have to explain anything to me, Lyra. I know you would

never actually do anything like she claimed, “I said, taking a pause. “Besides, I have nothing to do with him. I thought I already made that clear to–”
She cut me off.
“You need to cut the c**p, Freda. I know you have feelings for him. You always have, even though you tried to hide them,” she said, looking down at me. “You probably will never admit those feelings for him, but whatever she said will keep bugging and hurting you. I have to explain,” she said and I said nothing.
“After you left the party with Cole yesterday, he was really upset. So much that he hurt himself without even knowing. I crushed a soda can in his hand and it cut him. I felt horrible for him because I knew he was feeling the same thing you are. You both are going through hell. I took him to the bathroom and helped him clean up,” she said and I listened attentively.
I did not know how much I needed this explanation until she started making it. “He was explosive, and most of the time, he was a d**k, as usual,” she said,d, and I knew she was rolling her eyes, which made me laugh.
“He was hurting. I know he’s sorry for all he has done. He may have said it himself but I was not listening to him. I was lost in my thoughts,” she said and I nodded.
“I lashed out at him when he lashed out at me. He calmed down immediately and went back to being a sad d***k,” she said and paused. We both giggled.
“He asked if you love Cole,” she said and my heart stopped and started at High speed in my chest. Why was he asking that? What was his motive behind asking that? What exactly…

“What did you tell him?” I asked, taking a deep breath and asking the next question that came into my mind. “Nothing. I told him nothing. I left as soon as I saw your text,” she said and we both went silent.
“Oh, and I left my handkerchief with him,” she said, and I smiled. “Yeah, he asked me to give it to you,” I told her, and she pulled away from me to look at my face. “He did?” She asked with a raised eyebrow and surprise on her face. “Yep,” I said.
“Why didn’t you say anything? Why didn’t you ask me anything?” She asked with confusion and surprise on her face. “I trust you, Lyra. Letting Kaiden come in between Safiya and me was a big mistake. I’m not going to make that mistake again,” I said, shaking my head and kissing her cheek.
She smiled and her face went red. “Are you blushing?” I teased. “Macho Lyra is blushing?” I took my fingers to her ribs and she pushed me off with a laugh. “Get off me!” She laughed.
I rolled away from her and looked at her with a smile. “I love you. And I’m not going to let anything or anyone come in between us, okay?” I told her and she smiled as she nodded. “I love you too,” she responded affectionately.
“Now what are you going to do about Kaiden?” She asked with a teasing smirk on her face. “Oh shut up. I’m more worried about Safiya,” I shook my head at her. “That’s right. F**ng Safiya. I wonder how she heard that I was with Kaiden,” she said, shaking her head.
