Rejected Mate's Redemption (Freda and James) novel Chapter 137

Chapter 137
FREDA WHITLOCK
I groaned and rolled over in my bed, waking Lyra because her phone was ringing. She answered the call, and I lay quietly, trying to go back to sleep. We had only been asleep for fifteen minutes when the call woke me up and I was trying to get back to sleep. If there was anything I hated more in the world than anyone who refused to allow me to have my peace of mind, it was being woken up from sleep.
Lýra got out of bed in a hurry, and I groaned again, raising my head to look at her. “What?” I asked before my eyes caught the freaked-out expression on her face. I instantly sat straight in the bed, wishing I had heard what made her so upset.
“What’s wrong? Who was that? What did they say?” I questioned, watching her as she rubbed her face with urgency. “What’s going on?” I asked again and she looked at me.
“Promise me you won’t panic,” she said with a look of concern on her face. My heart immediately dropped, and I climbed out of bed. “What happened?” I asked, walking towards her.
“Freda…” I cut her off.
“Lyra, what the hell happened? What’s going on?” I was clueless and I hated that. “I appreciate you trying to protect me, but I
need you to tell me what it is,” I said, and she took a deep breath before she spoke.

“Georgina called Dad’s in the emergency unit. The doctors say he might not make it, she said softly and shattered my world in the most horrible possible way.
Next thing I knew, I was pulling on a pair of joggers and a hoodle and I was running out of the room while she called after
Dad…
Dad. My dad. Oh my god. Oh, goddess…
My whole world was falling apart at the mere words she had muttered and I doubted anyone would understand what this
meant.
I hurried into Francisco’s room but he was fast asleep. Lyra would definitely want to follow me to the hospital, so there was no way I could leave Francisco home alone without any
information.
I pulled the covers back and lifted him into my arms, laying his head on my shoulder. I grabbed my car key and hurried out of the house. Lyra was close on my tail, and I could tell she was almost as horrified and devastated as I was. “Freda, give him to me,” she said and I transferred Francisco into her arms and went to the driver’s seat. She climbed into the backseat, buckling Francisco to herself.
I did not plan on having an accident so that didn’t really matter. As soon as I started the car and drove out of our driveway, I broke into tears. This was forever going to be the worst day of my life. The most horrible day in the history of horrible days and that was no joke.

Francisco was wide awake by the time we reached the hospital and neither me nor Lyra knew how to tell him that his grandfather was dying, so we both just kept quiet about it. “Freda, you need to calm down,” Lyra said as I parked the car and headed straight for the entrance door. She took the keys from me and locked it with the remote.
“Mommy, what’s happening? Why are we at the hospital?” Francisco asked, looking confused and that broke my heart more. I started to weep. Francisco looked worried and horrified then. “Aunt Lyra, what’s wrong?” He asked with a panicked tone and I could tell that tears of his own were coming.
1 hurried away from the two of them and headed for the register. “What ward is my father?” I asked. The nurse recognized me immediately and a look of confusion crossed her face. “Your father?” She asked and I shook my head, turning away from her. I did not have time for this.
“Where is he, Lyra?” I asked Lyra as soon as I spotted her. “Emergency ward, 29,” she said, and I hurried off.
I got to the front of the room, and my eyes caught sight of Georgina. She had called Lyra. Why the hell had she not thought to call me?
Oh, right. She hated me. I completely despised her too. She was a s**d b**h and I regretted the fact that my father had not married someone better when he still had a lot of life in him.
“Where is he?” I asked and she looked at me with a cold expression. How could she be so cold when my father, her husband was dying? What the hell was wrong with people??
