For a minute or two, I had fair hideyes on my face and when out
eyes met. Kaiden raised a brow, amusement swimming in his eyes, he opened his mouth to say something but didn’t
Silence hung in the air til he spoke. “You still haven’t told me who he is to you, Freda” There was an edge to his voice that almost had me rolling my eyes again. He sounded jealous.
Well Suck him
“He’s just a friend who cared enough to come in search of me when I suddenly left and haven’t been calling as promised. He probably thought it was strange, maybe something might ve happened to me, and so took the risk to come and see me” The words slipped out of my mouth before I knew it and it left me confused as hell Why did it sound like I was scolding him for his negligence in the past? I sounded pained, furious like the girl I was years ago who cried herself to sleep with questions on my mind – why hadn’t he come?
Gosh, this was infuriating. Guit flickered in his eyes and his face softened. He looked away from me with a tight smile before nodding. “Okay, I’ll ask for them to be brought out”
I let out a sigh of relief then choked out a reluctant. “Thank you, Alpha”
With that, I spun on my heels and practically dashed to the door. I could feel his gaze burning through my soul, making me feel giddy. F**k!
“Freda-“I heard him call but the door had been slammed shut behind me already.
I waited before the cell house for the release of Cole and whoever he came with, tapping my feet, as a means of
distraction from Gia’s grumbles.
“Freda!!” Soon, there was a squeal behind me and my ears. perked at the voice and I twirled quickly. My eyes widened in astonishment as they landed on Elle and Gina. Both were my coworkers when I was in the human world but what were they doing here?
Excitement washed over me as they approached and when they were close, they enclosed me in a big hug.
“Elle, Gina…” I called, excitedly as we hugged ourselves like our lives depended on it.
“Oh my gosh, we missed you!” Gina squealed as we pulled away.
“Me too Gina. I’m sorry about the lock-up thing” I apologized and they hushed me by pulling me into a hug again and I giggled. I had missed them so much, I just realized it.
God, I should have called, I thought as they recounted about their journey to this place.
“Well, I’m glad you’re here and safe. I had no idea you guys would tag along” I told them after listening to their explanation, we were still holding hands, our smiles still in place.
“We couldn’t resist when he offered us a ride” Elle replied, looking over to Cole who had just been watching us squeal and jump about. He seemed to be amused by the scene. There was a small smile on his lips as he stared at us.
Excusing myself from the girls, I went over to him, beaming
“Cole, I didn’t think you would come,” I started, shaking my head.

I was grateful and happy that he did come. I couldn’t even express how I felt. This meant a lot to me, so much more than I might’ve thought.
Cole smiled. The man was handsome, he posed an athletic build and had unique yet captivating azure eyes that glimmered with tenderness as he stared at me.
“But I did, I had to” He responded and I blushed. His voice was deep and smooth. Damn!
‘Pfft’ Gia scoffed, yapping something about her mate being better.
Ignoring her, I offered a hug and he pulled me in but was quick to release me from the embrace. His gesture made me blush again, he was such a gentleman.
I felt Gina and Elle behind us and I turned to them, “Okay, guys. Let’s go home. It’s been a long day”
They nodded in sync and for some reason, we burst out laughing. This was probably the most excitement I had felt since the incident that took place in the past few days. It was just great.
When we got to my home, I noticed the house was empty. Lyra and Francisco were not home which made me wonder where they had gone. Maybe Lyra had the bright idea to give me and the guests Cole especially some space. That sly wolf. They probably might’ve gone out to the park.

As everyone settled down, I rushed to the kitchen to get them some juice and from the kitchen, I could hear Elle and Gina gushing over the interior designs.
“Freda, I knew you had great taste but this is just classic. I love it, I love you!” Elle screamed and giggled as I walked out with three glasses of orange juice on a tray
‘I love you too”
They picked their drinks from the tray when I offered, both chorusing thank you’s Cole was seated across from them so I turned to him but there was a distant look in his eyes. His brows were furrowed as though he was in deep thought. He didn’t even notice me standing before firm,
“Hey I called and he looked up at me, snapping out of the trance he was in, “What are you thinking about?”
He sighed, picking up his glass and raising it to the girls before taking it to his lips slowly. I was just wondering Freda, are the people here different from humans?”
felt my breath hitch and I becarte numb. I wasn’t expecting that question, at all
