Gloria fell silent, which irritated Jordy.

Karen looked at Gloria in disbelief. “Gloria?”

Karen, who was sitting next to Jordy, heard Harold even though Jordy did not put him on speakerphone.

Karen looked at Gloria in disbelief.

Gloria was sitting next to Karen. The room was quiet. She could not hear all of it, but she got the gist of what Harold just said. She met Karen’s gaze and rubbed the tip of her nose awkwardly.

Jordy lapsed into silence and heard Harold say, “The police are still grilling them about who’s behind them. That’s going to be a little longer.”

“OK.”

Harold didn’t say another word, and Jordy hung up the phone and said nothing more.

It didn’t hurt, but Jordy froze for a second.
