When Ophelia jumped off the third floor, her face was badly mutilated and the only thing left were her clothes, which were barely recognizable, so I naturally mistook her for Ophelia. What’s more, I didn’t want Deirdre to know that her mother was dead, so I chose to close the case hastily. Therefore, there is a chance that the corpse wasn’t Ophelia.”

“But if she’s still alive, why didn’t she come back for Deirdre? And how did Charlene discover that she isn’t dead?”

Brendan shook his head. “I just know that the person in the photo looks exactly like Ophelia. Other than that, I know nothing about her.”
