Levi scoffed, his eyes filled with disdain. "What kind of legitimate reason could you possibly have?"
"Repayment. How about that?" Eric's behavior was downright infuriating, and he looked at Levi with blatant provocation.
"Jae took me out for dinner to thank me. Some people who haven't contributed anything obviously don't get a seat at the table."
I sighed in exasperation. These two were like sworn rivals. Every time they met, it was nothing but chaos.
Eric always seemed to come out on top, but Levi was too stubborn to back down.
I used to think that if they saw more of each other, they would get along. It turned out that even after all this while, nothing had changed.
"Alright, that's enough. Do you guys even realize how late it is?" I glanced at the time and stepped in before their argument spiraled further. "No matter what, thank you for today, Eric." I met his gaze, genuinely grateful.
He might have claimed this dinner was just part of the deal, but that didn't make me any less appreciative.
"If it's for you, it doesn't count as a favor," Eric said with a smile.
Then, as if to get one last jab in, he shot Levi a smug look before turning to leave.
Levi looked like he wanted to fire back, but I gave him a sharp glance, silencing him instantly. With an annoyed huff, he followed me inside.
"I told you to get some sleep. Why were you waiting for me?" I let out a long sigh, feeling utterly helpless.
I knew Levi was just worried about me, but knowing he had been sitting out here all this time filled me with guilt.
"I figured if you needed help, I'd be right here to rush over."
