I didn't turn away until I saw Jeremiah being escorted out. After instructing the security downstairs to never let him in again, I finally entered the studio.
Levi spotted me when I walked in and immediately came over, concern written all over his face. "Jane, what happened? You don't look so good."
I quickly covered my face after snapping out of my thoughts. "It's nothing. I got up too early this morning. I just need a moment to shake it off."
With that, I headed straight into my office, keeping my thoughts to myself.
Jeremiah's attitude and reaction earlier kept nagging at me. I couldn't shake the feeling that he had something to do with the sudden trouble with our online store.
He had left me with a warning the last time we met. He said to just wait and see. Maybe he had just been bluffing, but I couldn't afford to take any chances. Still, I couldn't tell Levi about this. He had a bold, impulsive nature, and if he found out, there was no telling what he might do.
He could very well march up to Jeremiah and demand answers, which would only tip Jeremiah off and cut off any chance of tracing the real culprit.
With that in mind, I pulled out my phone and dialed the private investigator. Once I ended the call, I looked for Levi to check if he had made any progress last night.
Stepping into the conference room, I found him seated at the table with a thick stack of documents in front of him. Next to the papers sat a small box.
"What's this?" I asked, taking a seat and reaching for the documents.
The testing lab worked fast, and the results were sent back overnight. The report confirmed the fabric used in our clothing was heavily contaminated with harmful heavy metals.
These toxic residues could penetrate the skin through prolonged exposure. At best, they would cause persistent itching. At worst, they could trigger severe allergic reactions. And if someone were to wear the clothing for too long, their skin could start to break down.
My head snapped up, and I locked eyes with Levi.
Levi caught the shock in my eyes and flipped open the small box. Inside was a square-shaped device. He took it out, powered it on, and grabbed a returned dress from the pile beside him.
As soon as he placed the device against the fabric, a red light flashed, and a sharp beeping sound filled the room. A few seconds later, a string of numbers appeared on the screen.
