Chapter 17 Terminating the Partnership 

I rarely cried in front of my parents. Seeing how I was breaking down, they assumed I had suffered greatly. 

Mom gave me gentle pats on the back and uttered in a voice full of concern, “Don’t cry, Jae. Tell me what happened. I’ll make sure to stand up for you.” 

Dad gripped my shoulder. He sounded mad as he asked, “Did Jeremiah pick on you? I’ll teach him a lesson right now!” 

Mom shot him a glare. “Calm down! Listen to Jae explain. Stop acting so impulsively!” 

“How can I stay calm when she’s this hurt?” 

They were bickering as always, and that was a relief to hear. 

I sniffled and told them about the awful things Jeremiah had recently done and my plan to divorce him. Their expressions darkened after they listened to everything I had to say. 

Dad looked like he’d immediately drag Jeremiah over for a reckoning, but Mom managed to hold him back. 

She gripped my hand tightly. “We’ll be here for you since you’ve made up your mind. No one can 

harm you, and if Jeremiah hurts you again, tell me I’ll stand up for you.” 

Seeing the worry etched on her face, I leaned on her shoulder like I did as a child and nuzzled against her. “Got it, Mom.” 

Knowing that I hadn’t had dinner, Mom went to the kitchen and cooked my favorite dishes. 

Something occurred to me during the meal, and I spoke up, “Dad, we need to stop working with. 

Cornell Group on the Westin development project. 

“They’re profiting too much on this. We can’t just hand our money over to them.” 

This wasn’t just about money. In my past life, Cornell Group had used this project against Brown 

Group and caused a huge cash flow disruption. 

If I was going to divorce Jeremiah, I needed to sever all ties and prevent any potential troubles from arising.
