Revenge is best served cold (Jane and Jeremiah novel Chapter 238

I met Elsa's panicked gaze and flung the doctor's report right at her face.

"No concussion—not even a mild one. And yet, you have the nerve to act like you were on the brink of death?"

Elsa tossed the report aside, and her voice trembled with sobs. "I really thought I was going to die… I was terrified. Jane, no matter what, you shouldn't have pushed me!"

Jack held her hand, looking uncomfortable. "Elsa… could this be a misunderstanding? Jane was holding onto you the whole time. Maybe you remembered it wrong?"

The moment he mentioned that I had been holding onto her, something in Elsa's memory clicked. Her emotions surged even higher.

Tears streamed down her face as she clung to Jack's sleeve. "Jack, you have to believe me! She planned everything! She could have pulled me back, but at the last second, she let go on purpose!"

Before Jack could respond, Dad stepped forward with a stern expression. "Elsa! How could you slander your sister like that? She tried to save you, and her wrist is injured because of it! How could that be fake?"

Elsa froze in shock at those words. I calmly raised my freshly bandaged wrist, making sure she got a good look. The muscle strain was real, though it hadn't happened from trying to save her but rather from flinging her to the side at the last second.

Not that it mattered. What mattered was that no one believed Elsa anymore.

Her face was drained of color, and disbelief flashed in her eyes.

I spoke up gently, playing the understanding sister. "Dad, maybe she's just shaken up from the fall. She must have gotten confused. It's probably not on purpose."

I turned to Elsa. "Think carefully. Are you sure that's what happened?"
