In the hall, Phoebe was sitting in a wheelchair in a white dress. After two months of recovery and medication, the red marks on her face were less noticeable, and she looked a little similar to Elena who was approaching. 

Adams crouched in front of her wheelchair and said, “Queena, don’t be afraid. Mom and Dad are here.” 

Phoebe grabbed Adams’s shirt at once, and her exposed arm showed signs of past abuse. 

Her hand was covered in large scars, looking terrible. 

Elena’s heart throbbed when she saw that. She froze and was unable to step forward. 

She murmured, “Queena…” 

Her voice shook. She thought, ‘Is this my daughter? Is she really my daughter?‘ 

She recalled the last time she saw Queena. It was 18 years ago. 

She was kidnapped, and just before passing out, she saw those people snatch her daughter from her arms. Queena’s small hands struggled helplessly, and her cries became distant until she was thrown off the abandoned building. 

At that time, Queena was only three

old. 

For years, Elena was haunted by this scene, and she would wake up repeatedly from the nightmare. 

Her tears had long dried up. 

She thought her daughter was dead, yet now, after so many years someone told her that her daughter was still alive. 

She couldn’t believe it. 

Xander walked to Elena’s side and paused as well. 

It felt too unreal. 

The daughter they thought was dead had been missing for eighteen years and was suddenly found. 

“Dad, Mom, what are you waiting for?” Adams looked at them in confusion and said, “Queena, it’s fine. Mom and Dad are just overwhelmed.” 

Phoebe nodded and cautiously glanced at Xander. 

Her features had a slight resemblance to Elena’s, and her deep brown eyes were very similar to Elena’s amber eyes. “Queena, is it really my Queena?” Elena’s voice was low, like she was asking someone else yet also questioning herself. 

Xander had already rushed forward. When he saw the numerous wounds on Phoebe’s body and the scars on her face that nearly marred her beauty, his eyes turned slightly red, and his hands at his sides involuntarily clenched and trembled. 

“Queena, what did the Davidson family do to you?” Xander kept his voice calm, for fear that speaking too loudly might frighten the girl in front of him. 

Phoebe’s eyes were full of tears, and she nervously looked at the people surrounding her. 

She shook her head and whispered, “No, it wasn’t the Davidson family. This has nothing to do with them.” 

Maybe it was the white dress that she was wearing making her look terribly frail and weak.

Xander thought, ‘How could it not be the Davidson family?‘ 

Xander was both angry and guilty. He said, “It’s my fault for not protecting you.” 

Phoebe’s tears rolled down her cheeks, and then she threw herself into Xander’s arms. 

She asked in a choking voice, “Are you really my dad?”

Xander gently patted her head and said, “Yes, yes, I’m your dad. It’s good that you’re back. I promise I won’t let you suffer again.” 

“Okay,” Phoebe cried sadly, and her tears rolled down the marks on her cheeks. 

Her eyes slowly turned cold and vicious when no one could see her face. 

Elena stood still and didn’t move forward. Over the years, her personality had turned really indifferent. 

Even seeing her daughter had been found didn’t cause any emotion in her mind. 

“Mom,” Noah stood next to Elena and said. “Aren’t you happy?” 

Elena shook her head. It wasn’t that she wasn’t happy, but she had simply forgotten what happiness felt like. 

Her guilt was no less than Xander’s. 

As a mother, she couldn’t protect her child. Her guilt couldn’t be heavier. 

“Take care of Queena,” Elena said. Then she turned around and walked out of the villa. She got into her car and lit a cigarette. 

The arm holding the cigarette showed countless scars of self–harm. 

These were scars she had left over the years. 

She didn’t have the courage to face Queena or confront her past helplessness. She just couldn’t do it. 

After Elena left, the warm atmosphere somehow became a bit awkward. 

Xander turned his head, not understanding why Elena left suddenly. Back then, he thought he had lost his daughter forever, and the stress turned his hair gray overnight. 

Everyone thought it was because of his efforts for the country, but in truth, it was the cost he bore for losing his daughter. Now that his daughter was back, what more was there that he couldn’t overcome? 

Phoebe got out of Xander’s arms, and the red marks on her face became more noticeable. 

She said, “Dad, Mom…” 

“Give her some time. Your mom has been living with guilt over the years.” Xander looked at Phoebe’s arms, frowned again and said, “Queena, tell me what the Davidson family has done to you.” 

Seeing his daughter like this was heartbreaking. 

“It wasn’t the Davidson family. It was…was…” Phoebe shook her head and bit her lip as if she was holding back her emotions.
