The call was quick and short.
After the dialogue with Theodore, Hannah was so anxious and uneasy that she could not go back to work as planned.
Presently, she asked for leave from her father and called Rose and Tan for some work assignments. After these were all done, she finally could focus on Oscar's business.
She sat in the lounge.
Max seemed a bit anxious too.
Karen walked downstairs and found Hannah at home. Maybe Hannah's tricks made Karen behave herself these days. Sometimes she intended to shun Hannah, staying in her room when Hannah was at home. So it was natural that she was annoyed by Hannah who would have been on the way to the office.
She asked, "Why are you here, other than going back to the office? Hasn't my brother left yet?"
Her tone sounded unpleasant.
She wondered why Hannah was still there while her brother had left.
Hannah squinted at her.
Max could not control but interrupted her, "Master Oscar was taken away by the Investigation Department for an accusation of corruption."
This was not the right time for Karen to piss off Hannah.
"What?"
With her face pale, Karen found it unbelievable, yet she knew Max was not kidding. She could smell the air of anxiety.
She said angrily, "Why did my brother do such a stupid thing? Corruption? He's rich. Does he need to corrupt more? Ridiculous!"
Hannah found less interest to make any response to Karen.
The fact that Oscar had been taken away kept challenging Hannah's strong nerves. She had no idea how much time was left for her to come up with a solution.
As everyone else could see, it was not a good idea to frame Oscar for corruption since he was rich. So Hannah thought there was something much bigger going on here.
Thinking of this, Hannah got more sombre and worried.
Karen had never seen Hannah like that, so she realized that it would better shut her mouth.
She was sure that Hannah was the key to getting her brother out of trouble. Nervous, she dare not to be one of those added things on top of the problem to deal with.
'How could I stay well if Oscar were put in jail?' Karen thought as tears began to flood her eyes.
Though worrying about Oscar, Max did not neglect Karen who was anxious, and maybe starving for she had not taken breakfast. Max stood up from the sofa and said, "Miss Karen, I will serve you breakfast soon."
"No need. There goes my appetite."
"Feed yourself!" Hannah shouted at Karen, "Don't bring more trouble for us!"
Karen kept silent, other than retorting.
Staring at Hannah with a pair of timid eyes with chagrin, Karen could only constrain her anger.
Max came to the kitchen to prepare breakfast.
Hannah waited for Theodore at home.
In less than half an hour, Theodore rushed into the villa.
This was the most reliable friend, though his usual behaviour could not give a hint of his reliability. Whenever they were in trouble, Theodore was always the first to help.
A man followed him.
Hannah did not remember that man.
Theodore gave a pithy introduction quickly, saying, "This is Josh Aaron, the attorney in charge of Oscar's case. He was Oscar's instructor when Oscar was preparing for the test for a lawyer license. Though he spends more time in education, he is a remarkable barrister in practice."
Theodore's introduction aroused Hannah's interest.
This was a man about 40, with a pair of framed glasses, mature, prudent and humble.
"Nice to meet you, Mr Aaron," Hannah said.
"Nice to meet you too, Mrs Wells," Josh nodded, "Theodore gave some brief information on Oscar's case. I think they are well-prepared. And they must have abundant evidence to charge Oscar. So we might have little chance to win."
"I don't think so," Hannah objected, and of course, she was reluctant to accept Josh's prediction. She continued, "This is a frame-up. There must be some clues we can find. I haven't seen any artificial plot that can be flawless."
"I agree." Theodore echoed.
