I nodded and looked at my group of colleagues one last time before leaving. 

Igathered my luggage and boarded the earliest fight home. On my way back, anxiety gnawed at me. I had no idea what awaited me or how it’d feel to meet old friends again 

Lyla’s grandma’s passing reminded me of the time when Grandma had died. It had felt like my entire world had crumbled, and torrential rain had flooded my life. I was bett struggling to move forward in the storm. 

As soon as I got off the plane, I went straight to Lyla’s city. My emotions were a mix of uncertainty for the future and a deep concem for her. 

The city’s nose faded away as I traveled and was replaced by the quiet scenery. It seemed as if even nature had joined in the mourning. 

It was evening by the time I arrived at Lyla’s place. As I stood outside the door, I took a deep breath to steady my nerves and gently knocked. 

When the door opened, I was met with Lyla’s swollen and tear–filled eyes. She was still lost in grief over her grandma’s passing. 

We embraced tightly without a word, and our silent understanding and bond were enough to convey all the warmth and strength we wanted to share. 

“Eve, I’m so glad you’re here. I don’t know what I would’ve done without you. I missed you so much.” 

None of our classmates had come back, and it was only me. It was a clear testament to the bond we shared. 

After being together for three years in high school, we’d each gone our separate ways and spread out across the country. There was no single place we all called home, but every road was part of our journey. 

1 low, but I hope you can pull through. Your grandma’s funeral is tomorrow, so I want you to recover and be ready for it,” I said as I gently patted her back. My heart ached even more for her as I sensed her tremble. 

“Lyla, I understand this is hard on you, but trust that time will ease the pain. What will remain are our cherished memories of your grandma and the love we carry forber 

“She’d want you to be strong, to keep chasing your dreams, and to live your life to its fullest.” 

Lyla looked up at me with tears brimming laher eyes. The hint of resolve was starting 

to retur 

“You’re right, Eve. I can’t stay in sadness forever Grandma wouldn’t want that too. I’ll try to get through this for her and our future.”
