"Sorry… If you don't like it, I won't talk to her again." In this world, nothing mattered more than pleasing the one who held the purse strings.
Alicia recalled the advice Molly had given her: if the benefactor disapproved of something, it was absolutely off-limits. Not only that, but she was supposed to look as aggrieved as possible—put on a face that said "I'd give up anything for you." That way, he'd know she was obedient, sensible, and willing to sacrifice for his sake.
"I'm not going to meddle in your friendships. If you think she's alright, hang out with her. You need your own social circle, after all," Tyrone said, surprisingly agreeable for once.
"Winnie's from Harboridge. Her dad moved here for business—solid middle-class family," Tyrone explained briefly. "She grew up a bit proud, knows what she wants, and isn't afraid to go after it. She's ambitious."
Alicia was taken aback. Tyrone had already figured Winnie out?
Turns out, from the moment Winnie reached out to Alicia, Tyrone had set someone to investigate her.
He would never allow anyone with ulterior motives to get too close to Alicia. But Winnie was straightforward—a type easily managed.
Alicia didn't have many friends, so the fact that she wanted to make one actually pleased Tyrone.
Besides, it showed Winnie had some skill. In just a few days, she'd managed to befriend the president's wife at Lynch Corporation.
Clearly, winning over Alicia was more valuable than currying favor with Tyrone himself.
"Did Grandpa call you?" Tyrone asked.
"Yeah…" Alicia replied softly. "Nicole… she moved into the house. She even took over the master bedroom."
Alicia didn't want to tattle, but sometimes you had to speak up.
"I'll take care of it," Tyrone said. He never expected Alicia to handle these things herself—he would sort everything out for her.
"Okay…"
After hanging up, Alicia let out a sigh of relief.
Tyrone hadn't tried to stop her from making friends—that was a blessing.
